My older relatives used to lament the way money had lost its value.

Bloody hell, if they were alive today they'd turn in their graves.

my neighbour's grandson cuts the grass for me for £20. He is 16. Out of idle curiosity, I worked out what had equivalent purchasing power when I was 16 - 1953. The answer? Just ONE POUND

I would have estimated even less than that. It's a forlorn hope I know but I hope our government can keep some control of inflation or we'll all be broke. Some say that's what they want to achieve, and if that is right they are going the right way about it.

Seems they had to change it following complaints about problems with supermarket trollies.

Yes we would have had to wiggle them out of the trolley. No doubt there would be professional wigglers on hand to retrieve the coins for a small fee.

I notice that they have taken inflation into account. The trolley coin is a £5 one.
