Title: New Labour Leader
Post by: Alex on May 07, 2022, 03:02:06 PM
Starmer told colleagues he will quit if he's fined - did he really say that  ?
  :shocked: I don't believe him, but if he does here's one set of odds on who will replace him.

Next Labour leader
* Andy Burnham 4/1
* Wes Streeting 8/1
* Angela Rayner 8/1

I've worked with Andy a lot - so I'm a bit biased.

Top bloke - very genuine. Believes in what he says wether or not you agree :)

I'd be surprised if he wanted the job though.

That was my first thought too. I think he likes his present job very much and must look upon the leader's post with a jaundiced eye in comparison. Plus, he can't help where he was born.. :cool:

Well I'd argue with that, whoever thought the people of Manchester would elect a Scouser to be their mayor and an Evertonian to boot   :grin: :grin: :grin:

I was at a Hillsborough memorial service at Anfield when he spoke and was shouted down by the crowd.

After that he campaigned for Hillsborough and spoke in Parliament, five years later he had a different reception.

I never understood why Burnham didn't become Labour leader - presumably too sensible, not weird enough. A labour party led by Burnham - provided that he could keep the lid on the idiots - would, to my mind, be a far more dangerous and credible opposition than anything offered since 2010

I agree that he would have been a problem for the Tories, but David Miliband would have been the most dangerous oppostion leader.

Momentum saw both of them off & elected 'Red' Ed Miliband.

Must admit that I tend to forget DM - another man much better suited to the job than the looneys they preferred

The union block vote does seem to block candidates that people can vote for. Milliband and Corbyn were not feasible Prime Ministers.

Burnham would make a good leader and they could soon make him an MP with a safe seat some where. Only London's met are playing politics and giving out party gate fines. Up north the police have got better things to do.

What you call the union block vote is merely the combined votes of the individual union members.

But it is in the hands of the union leaders for their fiefdom.
