We're now being told not to call obese people obese & some twat of a scientist has said that thin people can be obese.
Fact : Some people are Fat.. Well padded.. Rounded .. Fuller figure.. Rotund..
Fact: Some people are Thin.. Lean.. Slight.. Petite.. Slim..
Fact: Fat means more flesh... Lean means less fat
I wish these dreadful people would stop playing around with our words..
:wtf: :yell:
what a load of bloody rubbish - shot out by academics anxious to find something to make their rambling idiocies seem learned comment.
So, now people aren't pigging out, they suffer from 'chronic appetite dysregulation'! :wtf: :wtf:
It's bloody lack of will power and greed. OK, there are a few - very few - folk with a metabolism that they simply cannot control and which causes their weight to balloon. BUT they are very few. At school the trauma caused by dad's death caused me to lose a fair amount of schooling and to be held back for a year. Out of the 240 boys in my two years there was just ONE boy who was obese - Mark Ison. Although only of average height for the year, he probably weighed half as much again as most of us. I met his parents at a school fete. His dad was tall - perhaps 6'2" or 3"and as skinny as a rake. His mother was petite and slim.
Years ago, embroiled in a very sedentary life style, I was shocked to find that (I am 6'1" when I stand up really straight) that I was 16-13! a few months of more exercise and less food saw me down to 15 stone, and a bit later to 14-7. I thought that was OK, but a few years on, checking BMI, that was also over the top. Got down to around 14-0, then, when Veronica became really disabled, I felt that I had to be as fit as possible to care for her, more exercise and dieting saw me down to 12-7. After she died, I have given up worrying and now, 5 years on, have stalled at around 13-7 to 13-10 and feel comfortable at that weight.
I look at folk in the street and wonder what so many of them think when they look in the mirror? I winder if they do?
It is no coincidence that we have an obesity crisis since we stopped fat shaming people.
What do you mean? Jokes like this?

Well you can disagree with me if you like, but I don't like fat shaming or any other shaming, it's bullying pure and simple in my book. AND I detest bullies young and old. People are what they are and it's not anyone's business but their own.
I would never fat shame anyone..It is their problem.. nothing to do with me..I have never been a bully..
I am a size 12.. I could do with losing a bit of weight here and there but , unfortunately, diets can not be targeted to specific areas... I quite like a bit of chocolate.. :yahoo:

I agree, but it's most certainly my business when my taxes are being used to pay for their diabetes, hip replacements, Personal Independence Payments & mobility scooters.
The burden on the NHS for diabetes 2 patients caused by obesity and the general cost of overweight equipment has prevented normal people getting proper care.
I oppose bullying in any form but avoiding the subject is not helping.
I'd have thought that 'obese' was a medical term.
So what word should be use?
Fat, porky, piggy, fatso, Billy/Bessie Bunter?
I'd never fat shame anybody, the older you get the harder it is to lose weight. Been there, got the T-Shirt too.
But I guess it's time to stop blaming the smokers for NHS problems, and move on to someone else eh ?
I had one of those T shirts too. Unfortunately it shrank in the wash...
the thing that really upsets me is to see young parents, themselves way over weight, with young children going the same way - vicious circle. There's a young mum in the village with a little one who is about four or five and already grossly overweight.
On the other hand, our local park has a kiddies' play area. Interestingly enough, none of the young parents with young children who frequnet the slides, swings, trampoline, etc., are obese! They don't even look overweight!
I'm all for a healthy lifestyle with properly made meals, fruit n veg ect, and the odd treat. I think the internet is to blame for a lot of kids weight today....Not All. But look at how we spent our time when we were young, very different from todays kids. We were aye outside playing and active, NOT sat in out rooms with tablets ect.
I also think as you get older it's harder to lose weight and it's important to try and exercise several times a week, low impact is fine, walking, swimming ect anything but keep yourself moving.
There are a couple of young mothers here who give their kids sweets all the time, keeps them quiet. Not good at all.
also, my schooldays were the mid 40s to early 50s when for much of that time food was rationed and, apart from the rich dining at the Savoy and the like, pigging out was impossible. And, as you say, Raven, I think the vast majority of us spent far more time out of doors than today's average child to late teens.
Oh, and school run didn't exist.
Oh, and school run didn't exist.
Unless you were late

Politicians?
one can - rightly - blame our politicians for many things, but people choosing to pig out in defiance of repeated warnings of the effect upon their health isn't one of them
What I meant was enough time has been spent blaming smokers for costing the NHS money, now its time to blame another group, namely obese people. I see a lot of overweight people when I'm out and about, but rarely see what I would class as Obese.
I always wonder when I see an overweight person on a mobility scooter which came first - the lack of mobility or the excess weight.
There have always been overweight people. I recall a woman teacher who played the piano in assembly at my primary school whose bum hung down over the sides of the stool she sat on. On reflection it surely couldn't have been a proper piano stool. What has changed seems to be the proportion of those who are overweight and just how grossly overweight some are.
I was alway slim but put on a little bit of a pot belly at Christmas that quickly disappeared in the new year. Then onto year it didn't disappear. If I could lose a stone I'd be very happy. I'd even settle for half a stone that didn't return. I spent 6 months losing that then put 5lbs back on in a couple of weeks. It's all to easy to slip.

I want you to look at this photo, I mean really look at it.
What do you see.
Two women two battles.
Two hearts. Two souls. Two bodies.
When you look at this photo, try not to judge.
Instead, try to understand that we all face our own battles every day.
Some we might share with others, some we keep to ourselves.
They might be obvious. They might not be.
Everyone is facing something they struggle with.
EVERYONE.
And no matter what separates your battles from hers, his battles from theirs, we are ALL human.
Be kind ❤
what I see is two ladies with two, different, problems. Neither of them have what I would regard as a healthy life style, but I wosh both of them the very best
