TBH the way the world is heading I think suggesting colonisation of Mars is anything but a dream is the real piss take.

The Martian (book and film) goes through a whole bunch of kludges to allow survival on Mars. Got a bit tedious for me TBH.

I'm sure the Americans could do it technically and maybe the Chinese too but finding the political will and the cash is likely to be a stumbling block.
