Not anymore it's not.
Dounreay was the UK's centre of fast reactor research and development from 1955 until 1994 and is now Scotland's largest nuclear clean-up and demolition project.

Seems they chose the wrong place Sheila, but that's Council's for you. Ours is in areas in Parks and up the river walks.

I hated next doors barbecue in Perth, the sun only had to blink and they had the damn thing out. It reeked, and the smell got into any washing I had on the ropes, and it drifted into the house through the back door.
Soooo glad when they moved away.
We often have friends over for lunch on a nice warm Sunday, we eat and socialise outside but all the food is prepared in the kitchen and meats cooked in the oven then brought outside.

Quote from: Raven on May 12, 2024, 11:04:27 AMWe have one up here beside us.... Well, along the coast a wee bit. It's proper name is "Dounreay" but it's mostly called "The Blot"
The beach "Sandside" it overlooks is lovely, but I seldom went there for our walk.

It might be a 'blot', but it's providing most of your reliable electricity.

Quote from: JBR on May 11, 2024, 05:55:01 PMThe main problem with getting the nuclear power stations built is getting the damned government to think outside their 'windmill box'.

Quote from: Alex on May 12, 2024, 09:11:08 AMI watched Friday night/early hours Saturday morning JB as it was supposed to be visible Friday and Saturday, but I didn't see anything.  Last night was the same but the sky as a whole had a different 'tone'  similar to bonfire night
No problem.  It'll happen again one day.

Quote from: Diasi on May 12, 2024, 08:12:49 AMThis is my whole point because the UK wasn't facing any threat from Germany.

Edward the V111 was on very good terms with Hitler who was an admirer of the UK's German Royal Family.

Hitler's sole aim was to regain some areas that were stolen from Germany after WW1, in which also the UK should not have got involved, led to the creation of the Soviet Union which is causing us so much trouble today.
But having regained that lost land, he pushed further into Russia.
He also took France.
As far as I'm concerned, he'd have been welcome to France but our leaders at the time must have become worried that the UK would be next.

I haven't watched it for years. But from the bits I've seen on the News I'm not missing anything. It seems to have descended into a who can be the biggest idiot competition. Load of tosh.

Quote from: Alex on May 12, 2024, 08:54:40 AMI hope the contest will be phased out eventually as even the audience was "odd Looking"
If current trends continue there will be no audience - mainly because there will be no population. The west is facing an extinction event.
