Title: Horseradish sauce
Post by: Silver Tabby on February 13, 2024, 10:11:15 PM
I am finding it difficult to buy fresh horseradish to make my own. Can anyone recommend a really good commercial brand?

The best I've ever tasted was a Polish version from Lidl - it was mixed with cream and very moreish. Sadly, it was a special buy, and naturally, when I went to get another couple of jars, they'd sold out and I haven't seen it since.

I've tried Coleman's horse radish sauce, but it's a bit harsh in taste.

Morrisons sell their own brand and has decent reviews:

Sainsburys do a Polish horseradish sauce and their own make too.  Not tried them though.

I'll visit nanny in her care home tomorrow and ask which one she used to get from Fortnum when we sent her out with the wicker trugg to do the weekly shop.

That's the trouble with Lidl and Aldi! Find something you really like and they stop selling it.

We use Sainsbury's 'Taste the Difference', we like it, but I'll look out for the Polish version Alex mentioned.

According to Goggle, the Polish for horseradish sauce is
sos chrzanowy, if that helps.
