Title: What was your best present this year?
Post by: GrannyMac on December 27, 2023, 09:33:55 AM
Our family are pretty good to OH and me, lots of nice things we like, but I think my swish new shopping trolley takes the prize this year.  I can put all my other gifts in it for starters!  😁

A fish filleting knife.  We've not had much fresh fish over the years due to Mrs Dex hating fish.  But I, my daughter and myself do like it and do I thought it would be nice if I started making dishes from scratch.

I tried to come up with something unusual this year, and gave Marge a nice bottle of wrinkle repair cream for Christmas.  She didn't seem particularly happy, for some reason.

Maybe not getting getting the 1000ml size super strength one was what caused the problem?
Possibly branding - I've found own brands can be acceptable but you are better going with Boots rather than B&Q.

You should really have stuck with an old faithful rather than going for something radical. An ironing board cover, for instance, often leaves them speechless.

Enjoy your fresh fish Dex.  Enough said JBR, you should perhaps go with klondike's suggestion for something for the home next time.  😏.  How many handbags Alex?

Lovely.

I got a chip cutter from OH one Christmas when we were young and hard up, he's never made the same mistake again.  😁

The worst presents from husbands are money , with the words 'Buy something nice for yourself'. In other words 'I haven't a clue what to get you'...  :nooo:

Isn't that better that someting you don't like or will never use? Perhaps you were never good at hinting?

I go to a spa every year with my daughter and daughter in law. It's an expensive treat, OH buys me vouchers.  He can get them online (he hates shopping) and he knows I'm happy with them.  A wee bit better than just money. 💰

I haven't had any Xmas or birthday presents for many years but this year I got one so I suppose it could be classed as the best.

Personally I have no time for them & don't want them.

Is it appropriate for "down below"?

BTW, I'm still recovering from my initial misreading of your best present being a large "clock" for your bedroom🤭🫣

I suppose that could make my best present the fact that no one has visited or pestered me.

Or it could be the new vacuum sealer I've just bought & arrived today, assuming you can have a present from yourself.

The Ambiano one that I got from Aldi still works but I have to press down very hard on the top for it to create a vacuum & I suspect the foam rubber seals are deformed & leaking.

I'll contact them to see if I can get spare seals.

The one I've bought has silicone rubber seals which are more substantial.

I bought a Bonsenkitchen to replace my press down sealer, I just need to press a button now it's great

The Ambiano sealer locked into place & then just a button press but the foam rubber seals didn't work unless I applied extra pressure, which I why I've chosen one with silicone rubber seals.

It also came with a hose for using with vacuum storage boxes.

We've never thought of buying a sealer.  Do you buy in bulk then seal to freeze?

I found this on Amazon and showed the details to Marge, as I thought it a good idea.

No takers, unfortunately, as she insists that she doesn't store food like that for any length of time.
Obviously, I defer to her superior knowledge.  (i don't cook.)

I got a cheap one from Lidl. I use it for packing deadbait for fishing for the freezer.

I buy a bag of small whole fish from the fishing shop and sometimes Lidl sell a big bags of sardines which works oui cheaper. I take some fishing but they don't all get used and the ones that go back are part thawed. They get wrapped in cling film and then sealed in a bag for re-freezing. That stops them stinking the freezer out.

Virtually everything is in bulk when you live alone.

A couple of days ago I bought a pack of 12 Richmond pork sausages from the chiller section so I had 2 yesterday & took out another two, which are in the fridge, that I'll have tomorrow which is the use by date.

Vacuum packing them extends their fridge storage life by at least a week but I also put them in the freezer in small bags of 2 & the vacuum bags prevent all 8 sticking together & prevent freezer burn.
