Title: Get the bunting out..
Post by: Scrumpy on May 01, 2023, 09:36:04 AM

Our road is being closed next Sunday because of a street party..
Many roads around here are doing the same..
I think people have been so pissed off with Covid.. Boris.. Truss.. Putin.. that ANYTHING that gives them a reason to celebrate is welcome..
Charles has a hard act to follow.. and silly Harry doesn't help.. I feel for him..
Will I be out celebrating.!!  I'll see what the weather is like.. Fortunately I live on a bend.. my mate lives slap bang in the middle..

Many roads around here have closed off sections due to alleged roadworks (despite there being no sighting of anyone actually carrying out the works for weeks/months on end).

I think we might end up getting out the bunting and having street parties to celebrate the completion of the works!!

Are you completely round the bend or only partly round the bend?

No chance of my road being closed as it's one of the main routes into the town.

I don't think I'll be watching, the Queen is a hard act to follow.  Perhaps Charles, who is knocking on by the way, should have stepped aside for William to become king ?

They don't do it that way. He spent all his life waiting for his turn. Edward VII did the same. William will be no spring chicken when his turn comes around. For some reason the Holy Father is never in much of a hurry to meet the leaders of his churches.

Whoever is King or Queen of this country makes little difference..
It could be worse.. We could have a Putin .. or some Muslim..
Anyway, it's part of our heritage.. and when the royals go that will be the end of it..

As a member of Republic I won't live to see the end of the Monarchy but I predict that it will end in the not too distant future.

A survey has shown that 65% of the UK support the Monarchy, but the majority of this 65% are over the age of 65 by strange coincidence.

By using the percentage by age formula it's estimated that if the same survey was done in 10 years time the support would be around 35%, which would still include many of today's over 65s.

Just because it's part of our heritage is no reason to keep it, just like the slave trade was part of our heritage & was abolished.

If they held the Coronation in my back garden, I'm not sure I would draw the curtains.

But the best argument for keeping the monarchy is President Blair. A self serving politician to replace the King........Charlie shades it.

Wonderful alternatives, in reality a contest between two Nett zero ideologues. One a schematic Globalist using the climate to skewer the populations where he can. The other a worn out Vegan clothes horse, out of tune and mercifully out of time.

Nigel Farage for PM and a vastly dumbed down Monarchy.

I thought Andrew and Harry had dumbed down the monarchy already, especially with their appaling taste in wives.

There is every reason to keep it..
We hear the words 'Where is my England'?
' Everything is changing '..

Too many (visitors)..  and people are not happy with the
change... Once our monarchy has gone.. That is our England gone.. IMO..

I'm quite surprised that the monarchies of Europe have survived the european union, as it has half a dozen presidents, I don't think kings and queens figure in their plans.

Are we allowed to say queens these days?

It's an interesting point.  What would have happened if Charles had identified as a female.  Would we call it/they/them (or whatever the correct PC term is) Queen Charles?

I guess in that case queen would have been one of its pronouns.

No word censor here either.

As it is plain to anybody with eyes and a brain cell what most (all?) obfuscations mean there seems little point in having one.

But Blair, like all PMs, was a President in all but name & Lizzie Windsor had no say in what decisions he took.

All the UK needs to do is ditch the name Prime Minister & replace it with President, as they're one & the same thing.

I may be wrong but I think most people are either pro monarchy or pretty much ambivalent with those detesting it in a minority. The same can't be said of PMs. Do you really want King Rishi or the soon to be King Keith? How about Queen Theresa? Charles may have plenty of faults but I'd take him over all of those any day.

If they reintroduced the method used for getting rid of Charles I for any future PM Kings I may be persuaded to change my mind.

Kings and queens have been popular characters in the past. King George VI was popular and so was the late Queen, we shouldn't therefore be too hasty to do away with the monarchy. Even so I draw the line at adulation.

Not much adulation from the football fans at Anfield as, to the tune of "she'll be coming round the mountains"  they sang 'You can stick yer coronation up yer arse'  but it was only from one section of the crowd.  :boo:

I don't get it...
Why on earth would you be happy if it rains!!
People have organised many events across the country..
Street parties.. fetes.. Children delighted to be dressing up..
So many things going on..
We have been through an Epidemic.. Fuel and cost of living crisis.. Chaos in Parliament..
Even if our celebrations are about enjoying ourselves and not really about a Coronation why would anyone be happy to see rain!!
I would rather see the country celebrating a new Monarch then being downtrodden by a dictator.. That would certainly give people something to moan about..

The rain doesn't stop them coming.. The trains and tubes are heaving..
We , as a country , do pomp and ceremony like no other.. People come from all over the world to be part of it..
I know some do not like it.. They would be happy with a dictator.. a WEALTHY one..  Be careful what you wish for.. Change isn't always for the best..

It seems as though the arrests of members of Republic has been a massive home goal for the already totally corrupt Met Police.

Anyway, a message from me, delivered by Celtic fans this time, probably while the Liverpool fans were booing during the National Anthem. Lol :yay:

Now you mention it .... you're right!

One or two things stuck in my mind about today.
Kate looked trememdous, stunning ... like a Queen. They should have crowned her and Wills instead of Charles and Cam, who are far too old to be blazoning the trail into the future. Cam looked rreal rough.

Harry looked rather sad, until they snapped him at Heathrow, flying back out to his wife and kids. He actually grinned then.

Eugienie and Beatrice, I always mix them up. The Bling Bling Twins ... one wore a pair of earrings worth 37k ... and the other, a choker, worth 130k. And they looked about as tasteful as those daft fascinators they both used to wear.

And it rained. Which was a shame as it raher spoilt it for those who do like things royal with all the pageantry.

Aren't all the women just breeding machines?

Even Kate Middleton.
I admit, I was never too fond of Kate but she does seem to have really grown in to her role ... and royal fans must rate her a real asset.

I'm not sure of the details but wasn't there a coronation once where the King had his own Queen barred from attending. Caroline? Shame there was no live TV coverage then for that one. Must have been a hoot chucking out the King's wife.

I bet her great, great grandad, who was a Durham miner, could never have envisaged one of his family with a title, never mind marrying the heir to the throne!
