Post by: Wandering Walter on January 09, 2022, 03:53:50 PM
What the hell is happening in the UK today, Students have been warned reading Jane Eyre or Dickens may disturb them as it they contain references to violence, sexual assault, etc etc

For heavens sake generations have read them over the years, or watched dramas on TV about them

Even the New Testament - into what will they mangle 'suffer little children to come unto me'?

Read both books in junior school, never disturbed me.

Don't most kids have X Boxes these days? from what I hear Grand Theft Auto and violent war games are pretty advarage stuff but classic literature comes with a warning?

I was reading some of the comments on this story on the Mail page, one comment said that perhaps the wokes don't like the fact that Dickins wrote of the Workhouses, poverty and degredation in Victorian England, while they want to paint a picture of the privaledged British people oppressing the rest of the world, which dosen't fit with the reality for most people of the times.  Very interesting point I think.
