The article wrongly states that trees turn carbon into oxygen. But 14 million of them is an awful lot.

Trees do create & release oxygen as a by-product of the photosynthesis chemical reaction process when the tree captures  CO2 & turns it into nutrients, such as sugar, to feed the tree.

Yeah they do that but Ashy is correct in criticising the wording quoted because the reaction is chemical not nuclear.

Take a look for the CNO cycle in stars - in some carbon really is converted into oxygen. If trees did it we wouldn't be needing wind turbines for sure...
