I went for an interview with them once in Croydon. I didn't get the job. Probably just as well the way things have gone down south.

I remember the police coming to my door . 'We are holding Harry in the cells overnight.. Just for his own safety.. thought you would like to know'

Harry was my first husband.. Well known in the town and around the pubs..
How different the police were back then..

I love my country.. I am saddened by the way she is gradually being taken over..
I am proud to be British.. And would stand at her back all day long..
The British Empire is a thing of the past.. We have relinquished our hold on many places that we held claim to.. And in my opinion that is not a bad thing..

I do not criticise her..   I was merely stating what happened in the past..

All conquering countries did these things .
You cannot judge a country by the mores of yesteryear .
And we did do some good things
We gave them the gift of language for a start
The language of the world .
The countries we colonised are the better countries of the world today.
Look at the countries that were ruled by the Spanish who also had a huge empire.
The Portuguese , the Dutch .
None of these countries have amounted to much .
They are poor and backward in many ways .
While India once ruled by us is a powerhouse in the east .
We did many bad things but we did good too .
We left them our language , our education and legal systems and our railways .
Well said, Muddy.
I'm sick and tired of those people who criticise our country for what it has done, they themselves now doing all they can to destroy it.
I hope they're proud of themselves in a decade or two from now.

Quote from: Scrumpy on April 23, 2024, 11:52:50 AMHow arrogant that sounds..
We treated most of them as second class citizens.. We believed our way was the only way..
The Aborigines of Australia were treated badly and became a second class race.. and still are..
The Red Indian of the US was treated equally as bad.. and still are..
These being just a couple of examples..
They were doing alright until we claimed their countries..

Quote from: Diasi on April 23, 2024, 12:49:12 PMIt's my Dad's birthday, he was born in 1905.

I wonder what he'd have made of the UK today.

At least his generation didn't live long enough to see that D Day was just a waste of time & lives.
I completely agree.
Millions lost their lives to protect this country in two world wars, yet now look at what we are doing.
Our leaders are happily inviting into our country as many people, who are quite likely to eventually oppose and even fight us.
Your dad, my dad, and so many others who fought for this country eighty years ago, must now be turning in their graves.
The country is moving to probably the lowest form it has ever been, and nobody's fault but our own people.

Quote from: JBR on April 23, 2024, 11:11:57 AMHappy St George's Day, whilst we still have it.

I read that black taxi drivers in Londonistan have been instructed not to fly the English flag, which is something they apparently have done for years.
Perhaps Palestinian flags will be OK?

ooh heck how did that happen
