General Discussion / The Proms

The BBC has announced that Sam Smith has been hired to headline The Proms.   For those who don't know Sam Smith here he is performing one of his "hits".   He often dresses as a woman, so his 'Headline entrance' will be a surprise

I saw the recommendations and checked out the calories as I'm not keen on having to buy a fresh set of clothes. What I saw frightened me off....

Surprisingly the Greggs version is more wasteline friendly but Greggs are in town and I don't visit often plus they are still a bit rich for a nibble imo

Haven't had one this year, I've cut out most sugary things.  I've lost over a stone and a half, it's really helped my knee.

Quote from: muddy on Yesterday at 11:53:20 PMSurely everyone must know that by now we can no longer rely on the state we have to take responsibility as best we can .
I'm afraid that is how things now are regarding the NHS.

It was a very good idea when it was first mooted.  The best in the world in many ways.
Unfortunately, partly due to lack of finances and partly due to oversubscription it is now failing.

I believe the only way to improve things is to do what the rest of Europe does and provide a healthcare system which relies on regular financial contributions from us, the patients.  It would result in more suitable financing of the system and, importantly, compel people to take more responsibility for themselves.

Of course, the ongoing problem of mass immigration must be considered.  As far as I know, those people who come here illegally still seem to qualify for the same levels of treatment regarding healthcare as the rest of us.

I wonder how other European countries' healthcare systems deal with the illegal immigrants who, I am sure, do not have to pay for healthcare insurance.

Maggie threw a party ... she was all of fifty four
She drank and danced til midnight, then fell down on the floor
She took out Jim, Peggy and Tom as she fell down with a plop
But Basil picked her up again and they continued to bop !

Quote from: JBR on Yesterday at 02:43:35 PMThanks.

Well, paid for food and drink, OK, but I doubt it would stretch to a five-star restaurant dinner.
Loss of earnings?  I don't earn anything any more, so I suppose I wouldn't qualify.  No children to care for, and my dear wife can care for herself.

No.  Unless it's a juicy murder or rape, I'll pass, and I understand that some trials can drag on in perpetuity!

Yes they're the good ones, plenty of 'refreshers' ...
