The odds are pretty high now that Boris will replace Rishi Sunak. Boris needs someone who can deal with the cost of living crisis.

Who do you suggest Hugh  ? :hmm:

hugh

To be honest Alex I really have no idea, I just hope Boris has.

I expect it will be someone who has a problem saying no.

hugh

I expect many of us thought Boris would be replaced but there doesn't seem any movement in that direction. I expect I may be talking rubbish but I feel there is going to be a fresh look on the Conservatives front bench. New faces and fresh idea's are needed. It is very hard to say who will win the general election but a very close call at the moment, and the Libs are not going to take sides again.

Time is drawing ever shorter to replace the leader for the Tories. With the last election in December 2019 the next must come in or before December 2024 but it was more usual for governments to go for 4 year terms before the fixed term act was introduced and that has gone now anyway. A new leader needs at least a year before any election.

More fines will be coming for partygate now the May elections are done followed by the internal partygate enquiry result but I can't help thinking that the momentum has now gone out of that and further revelations won't make things any worse than they currently are.

I think the decider well be the economy and Sunak's mitigation of the cost of living crisis was feeble. Interest rates on the rise to combat inflation will put pressure on mortgagees and government debt repayment alike. Things will only be getting worse. I wonder if we may not be in for an early election rather than later. Hanging on to the bitter end waiting for good news by Major didn't work out too well for the Tories.

hugh

klondike we can put party gate fines to bed. Everyone can clearly see Labour controlled London are playing politics.

For the Tories to win the next election, is how they deal withe cost of living and leveling the country up.

The bye elections were not good for Boris but the red wall still behind him so I guess its wait and see.

So basically you agree with my post then?

hugh

Don't fully agree with all you have said klondike, but we have both given our views on the future of Boris and the Tory party.

Which bit did you disagree with? Your post looked pretty much the same as mine but obviously using different words to me.

Alex

Neither of you has mentioned the illegal immigration problem, particularly the dinghy boys arriving daily - already 1600 + from 2nd to 15th May.  Apart from cost of living which seems to be Boris's main problem, many people want this invasion sorted.

klondike

Yep. Important and heading for 100k this year. It doesn't get mainstream coverage though but you get reminded of the cost of living every time you go in a shop or the power bill arrives and that needs to no newspaper or coverage.

It's costing us a fortune, this money should be spent on hard up British people.  I resent every penny spent on these parasites.

As do I. 😡😡😡

Changing Boris for a new leader, to late in the day. Rishi doesn't seem to have a clue what to do about the cost of living which I pretty much said in my opening post. At the moment who will win the next general election, very likely to be the Labour party with a tiny majority. Thankfully its the finish of the party gate fines, that's put to bed at last.
