Announcements / Forum slow?
Last post by Mark - Today at 10:45:14 AM
If you think the forum is running slow please check

https://letschat.club/extras/perf/

If you see obvious increases in the graph from earlier days (it covers a week one day at a time) then either PM klondike or mention it in a post and I'll take alook.

The background story...

We had some pretty big slowdowns that lasted several days recently. I didn't notice or check until it was mentioned and then I looked at the performance monitor I had running on my Raspberry Pi at home and saw there had been periods of quite long response times.

I no longer expose the Pi to the internet as similar hammering from various bots hammer that too so can't give access to the monitor. I have now moved it to the server the forum runs on. It monitors the forum and the BBC by reading the home pages once a minute. As the BBC get billions from licence fee payers they can afford a faster server than me as you will see. I monitored both as I could see if the problem was in my home connection. I've left the BBC check in although it is less useful now.

You won't get response time like those shown as your traffic will be on slower connections. Latency for most home internet alone will add 5 to 25 milliseconds and 4G/5G a lot more.

Quote from: klondike on Yesterday at 10:44:08 PMI think allowing or blocking notifications would be done at the browser level.

Here are some instructions for Edge

Thank you for this.  There is a lot of helpful information here, and I have tried everything suggested without success.  I'm afraid that Notifications in Facebook, and other sections of the site, are still lacking the details which I used to receive.  Thanks anyway for persevering and sending details of this helpful site.

However, for some reason, Facebook notifications still works properly using Chrome, which I shall begin to use as an alternative.

...or contact the Taliban and ask them to come and run the country.

At least that might stop the influx of immigrants.  Every cloud, etc etc

Quote from: klondike on Yesterday at 06:12:04 PMSome Americans seem to think they are all African Americans. Including those living anywhere in the world. These are the same Americans that criticise our slang term for cigarettes on the grounds of non inclusivity.

They often appear on Quora. It's possible that they are trolling rather than just being complete dipsticks. They are also often the same ones who are certain that their second amendment rights entitle them to bring their AR15s here for self defence. The usual reply is that they are of course correct and recommend putting one in each their suitcases.
We used to call the original occupants of America 'Red Indians'.

I wonder whether 'red' will also become an offensive word.
I expect all fire engines to be hastily repainted, perhaps in blue?, at least in Londonistan.

Indeed.  It seems that the Hornets and the other invaders from Asia are in cahoots.

However, unlike their human compatriots, the hornets are not too happy with the climate in the frozen North...
apparently.

Well, we have three options:

1. Vote for any of the old parties, even the Conservatives or Labour.

2. Don't bother to vote.

3. Vote for Reform.

Think about it.  Carefully.

One of the women's profiles caught Frank's eye
Goodness was that hemline high
She'd used a filter on her face
Of her moustache there was no trace
He'd get in quick. Result!! YES!!. Five high !!
