How do I get access to "Politics" ?

klondike

By participating in the forum. Access to some boards is denied until a relatively modest number of posts have been made. Try starting a thread on something of interest to you or just take part in the word games for a while. The threshold is quite low.

Try introducing yourself Peter6153 - or did I miss that ?

There won't be many intros posted. Most arrived together from elsewhere and already knew each other.

He's been registered for ages but had only made one post.

Discovered there was a board call Politics because I moved a thread there pretty much by request and left the thread moved notification.

We need new posters anyway as the only way forums survive is by gaining members to make up for losses. We have 28 members. One a spoof,  I have two ids, there is another 2 id poster here so that makes 25 people. These are looking like wastage looking at when they last signed in...

So a 20% attrition rate. If you search much on the internet you will come across plenty of corpses of forums. Recognisable by the last post on them being about some new virus that seems to be arriving from China. Nothing worse than logging in on a forum and seeing nothing new from when you were last there. If that happens a few times you stop looking.

New posters need to be welcomed not treated with suspicion but they do need to be encouraged to post as a non poster is just a drain on resource and contributes nothing.

OK so how do we welcome people if they don't introduce themselves  ?  [2090]

Design a 'Welcome Stranger' strand? Maybe nudging those reading it to post if and when they wish?

I don't know is the straight answer. PF had and doubtless still has lots of lurkers. I used to make a point of checking the list of people's actively on the forum and there were frequently names that I didn't recognise. Also frequently ones I did who I thought long gone such as Undercover Pensioner on occasion.

Then you'd have instances of folk making a first post, getting a tumult of welcomes and never show again. Take a look at the bottom of PF. Just now it says 6870 Members. I first registered there nearly 6 years ago as fortyone. Over that time I doubt there were ever more than about forty active posters.

As I maybe said I've never run a forum or moderated one for long. Maybe anybody that has who reads this can comment. Countryman and Mac maybe.

Most of the "guests" that show in the numbers at the bottom are in fact bots of one sort or another.
