Title: multiple sites - help please
Post by: Michael Rolls on July 02, 2022, 04:57:39 AM
don't know how else to describe it. All of a sudden this morning this computer (Dell Inspiron 15 5000) has stopped holding more than one site at a time. Used to be, for example, I could open this site, decide I wanted to check something relevant to a post, minimise this site, open another site - news, or whatever, then return to this site. there would be tabs along the top of the screen for each open site. Can't understand it and it is a real nuisance - help please>

I'd never heard of that. Google says it's a chrome extension. Have you installed anything recently?

no - no idea how it happened - last night was normal first thing this morning it was doing it. When I looked at the screen I realised that there was a 'toolbar' for want of a better description, running down the left hand side of the screen - a bit under an inch wide on a 13" screen, and it was showing a tab for the site I was on, but if I left a site and opened another, the first one disappeared - if I feel brave I might play with it at some stage, but now I know the solution, all is well

I looked again. Apparently its an Edge option. You almost certainly turned it on by clicking the wrong place

crtl shift are next to each other on this keyboard - very easy for a clumsy finger (I have 8 plus 2 clumsy thumbs) to accidentally depress both - thanks - I reckon that's the mystery solved

I don't know what vertical tabs are, my machine uses Edge too.

must admit that I simply don't see the point of it - more a hindrance than a help when (as was my case) you don't have a clue as to what is going on

Turn it on and see. Instead of the page tabs running along the top of the browser they run down the left. I don't see any advantage myself either. I guess its a matter of taste.
