Slowly and gradually both the cinema and dance halls have  gone into decline,
where as pubs and clubs have faired better so is the television to blame  for this or is it that younger generations have gone elsewhere, the same for tastes in music and dance i suppose.  each generation having its own ideas about  entertainment, and having fun,

Q; what are your views and opinions as to the reasons how past pleasures have changed , in the past what pleasure did you enjoy when it came to going out and having a good time, if  so will you tell us about it,

Ashy

Home entertainment and the internet are probably most responsible, but I haven't been aware of a film showing at the cinema that I would want to go out and see since 1976.

Jacqueline

Your right Ashy, the films turned out these days are not what I want to see, even adults go to see these animated films without children, I only went to  see these when I had to, kids in tow and bored to tears.

We watch films from Talking Pictures, why is it that films from the 50's and 60's have a story to follow, you know the names of the people, modern films  I can watch right through and not know their namesin many cases,  I like an ending that doesn't leave you up in the air, and no ear splitting loud music.

The only two films I have seen in a few years are the Downton Abbey ones. Before that it was the re-make of Dunkirk, the soundtrack was horrendous, what a dreadful noise, I preferred the 1950's version.

As for dance halls, pub halls, village halls, social club dances, that's where we met our friends, found a boyfriend, danced the night away, great exercise, not like the lot these days in front of a screen, no wonder the kids are so fat.  We watched all the local bands, I was out most nights at a different local venue, it was a great time to be young, the modern kids don't know what they are missing.

My grandchildren envy me my youth.. They love the music and dance from the sixties..
However.. they also love going to big gatherings..
They drive off with their two man tents.. and come back knackered..
The world changes.. Their grandchildren will be doing something else.. Who knows , it could go round in a circle and Rock'n Roll might make a comeback.. Fashions and trends have been doing it for years..
At least we can say that we enjoyed what we had..
and they will say the same..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I don't know in any detail at all what today's teenagers do but I assume that being young they enjoy whatever it is just as we used to when we were their age.

We still go to the cinema occasionally. Last film was Elvis the Movie. Its a nice treat.  I've seen lots of kids' films with the grandchildren too. Moana, Frozen, Toy Story etc. They've all liked swimming, riding their bikes, scooters etc., but street games are no more I fear.

When they were younger and visited us, we'd go to the park, and they'd play on the swings, slides, and hope the icecream van was there. 😃.

I think the smoking ban had an effect on pubs.
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

There are still plenty of nightclubs around for the young people, but you need a torch to find your way to the bar
I'm glad I was young in the 60s/70s and I'm still amazed at how youngsters know all the words to Beatles classics, now that was Music

My grandchildren were bought up listening to their dad playing his guitar .. Mostly sixties music..
