I received my State Pension a day early today. Perhaps such generosity was hoped the disguise the fact that the increase of £8.90 represents a rise of 0.99%, rather then the 3.1% that has been mentioned – had I received that, the amount would have been £27.76. Can't work out what to do with such largesse, but I won't let it change my way of life, I'll still be the same modest, unassuming miserable old git I've always been.

I thought April pension never has the full increase, because it doesn't cover a full four weeks of the increase. Check your next payment Mike?

I'm pretty sure that the pension increase is applied from the first Monday after the 5th of April which brings it into the current tax year.
That makes a lot of sense as the amount of state pension received gets used to reduce your tax code for any other PAYE taxed income.
