. Beat that...
Just saw a mention of Ryan Giggs. That was the footballer who took out the super injunction whose name I couldn't remember back in the heady days of Guess Hew.
Bad news is I haven't a clue what it was all about.
Giggs had an affair with his brother's wife ..... I think
Allegedly...
No dick picks from or to teenage boys then?
Boring.
Or it might have been his brother had an affair with Ryan's wife - boring anyway and no dick pics
I liked him in Mary Poppins anyway.

In the Mary Poppins remake Disney has banned dwarves, they're up in arms about it.
Snow White is the one with the giant multi ethnic dwarfs.
But Ashy likes Mary Poppins
Does his wife know?
Does he have a wife?
If so she'd not mind Mary Poppins. So wholesome.

Indeed. Keep it in the family so to speak.

I'm useless at pressing knobs Scrumps.

Tip from Alexa. Try using Calendar to control your busy schedule.
I use post it notes. Sometimes the glue dries out and they fall off.
There is some old band member lives just off the road I used to go along to work every day. I have forgotten his name.
Looks like rain.
The pool in our local leisure centred reopened yesterday. The water was cold.
It didn't rain. At least not yet. The weeds aren't wilting though.
it's drizzzling
I sprayed the weeds with bleach. They are wilting now.
I sat down on the sofa with a cup of tea.. I fell asleep..
The tea got cold..
I should bring my washing in before it gets rained on.
Has anyone else noticed that the timer on a washing machine goes slower than the time on the kitchen clock.. ?
Must admit I've never sat watching the washing machine timer, must put that on my 'things to do' list

Britain's washout summer: Met Office warns of yet more rain with up to ten days of showers as temperatures struggle to climb above 20C into August- Forecasters say weather going into August will remain unseasonably unsettled
- Prospects for 'prolonged dry and hot spells' next month are currently unlikely

If you're wondering whether we've skipped summer and moved straight into autumn, the figures back you up.For July was cooler than June for the first time in more than half-a-century – and the wettest since 2009, forecasters said yesterday. And there's little sign of August being much of an improvement, with the Met Office warning that the prospects for any 'prolonged dry and hot spells' next month are currently unlikely. The Met Office says this week will see more unsettled weather with rain, showers, stronger winds and cooler temperatures. Into August, the country is likely to see thunder, sunshine and showers. Temperatures are likely to be mostly below average, forecasters predict.https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12355403/Met-Office-warns-showers-low-temperatures.html
Brian was right. Summer is cancelled.
I think it's my fault. When all the reports of the European heatwave started I put up a ceiling fan. It is a very good ceiling fan. I've had it on twice. Once to test it. Once when I sat on the remote.

Quote from: Alex on July 31, 2023, 05:17:36 PMWhat is it ?
It's a version of sterling engine. This type is called a vacuum engine or also flame licker because it does just that. A meths burner is positioned in front of the cylinder, There is a valve on the end of the cylinder. As the flywheel is spun it sucks in the hot gases from the flame and as the rotation continues the valve closes, The cylinder rapidly cools the hot gases and a partial vacuum forms. The air on the other side of the piston pushes it back to the top and the cycle repeats.
I'm fascinated by little engines - probably harking back to a steam engine I had as a child and model aero engines too. Anyway I came across the flame lickers on youtube and looked around for one, Many are stupid money and none work very well as there are design deficiences. I found that one for just over £30 on Amazon and got one knowing that it would need constant fiddling with to keep going.
It has no use at all - just a toy. Something to pass an hour or so fiddling around with. I put it up on YouTube as I use that for all sorts of short videos I share. The link posted here will just show the video but I added a bit of text in case anybody comes across it on YouTube I'll paste it in here...
This one was the cheapest I could find at £34.54 delivered from China. It took just over a week which was less than the estimate. This style are known not to run long as the cylinder overheats and stops the process. From cold it would probably go slightly over 2 minutes but I had run it for a short time before making this video.Once it had cooled it wouldn't restart and investigating it I could see there was a little carbon in the cylinder, Not much but enough to stop it starting. I took it to bits carefully noting the timing. Obviously not quite carefully enough as although it ran again it was only at about half speed. I'll need to fiddle with it.I was using meths. Maybe there are cleaner fuels or a quick way to decoke - I do have a Napier VP90 spray for cleaning shotguns which may do the trick.
I watched it too. I can see why its on this thread 😐. I might buy a new lipstick today.

Cats, when they walk, place their hind legs exactly where they have just placed their front legs.
In this video, with the help of sand dunes, we can see how the feline's hind limbs follow in a perfectly symmetrical manner the tracks made by the passage of the front limbs.

Off on the weekend up the Lake to South Manitou Island about 7 miles off Sleeping Bear Point. We're going in my neighbours tug conversion for the fishing and this time a couple of scuba divers are aboard to view a few of the many wrecks in this area. It's uninhabited these days but has a superb lighthouse, with an eerie past (don't they all)!
Apparently the fishings very good this year and theres a wonderful maritime museum in Sleeping Bear itself. I think I might choose the latter with it's fine selection of wonderful eating houses for a day and night visit with Annie as company and guide. Thats together her little Daschund Donna and Albert of course. Then a day or two fishing off the boat, which we can re-join, via a water taxi.
Sounds like a really enjoyable weekend so have a great time.
Starting this week I'll be helping a young family to move into their new home after being evicted by a private landlord who's selling up.
In their new home they'll be starting from scratch but I'll give them whatever help they need so they can move straight in with the essential appliances.

Fortunately their new home is a social housing house built in the last few years.
That's great news! Security of tenure = peace of mind. Hope the move goes well.

My boring party piece. Do I put the washing out yet ?
Thank you ladies,
Just back from that fishing trip on the Lake, wonderful experience. We went up at about 4 knots essentially overnight and breakfasted in 'Sleeping Bear' early Saturday morning. Then as the Tug set off to Sth Manitou island, we booked in at a delightful Hotel, hired a car and spent the day tripping around all the local beauty spots and then had a delightful dinner with Annie's friends from Glen Abor. Sunday was spent on Glen Lake by ourselves, the two dogs and again Annies friends who have a beautiful wooden historic day launch, converted from steam. The beauty of these parts was awe inspiring, or as they say here every third sentence 'awesome'. Glen Lake is not small at just under 25 sq km, and is a haven for all sorts of fabulous wild life. Monday we got a 'water taxi' out to the Tug and had a day's fishing and watching the 'Divers'. Then Tuesday after breakfast back down Lake Michigan. Boy did I sleep when we got back, Albert too!
We're going to drive up next month, pulling Annies vintage 'Airstream' trailer and have a week at least around Lake Glen. The trailer which was her dad's is over eighty years old and she had it completely restored 5 years ago by the company that built it originally. It's a thing of beauty in itself, now with air-con and we've booked a site in advance by the lakeside. Think we're using her 'Jeep' as she's driving. Having over 50 years of experience with the same trailer, I'm very happy to take the tertiary role in things. Everywhere we went I was treated so well by our 'cousins' and have accepted an invitation to speak at a local dinner for their version of the Retired Law Society, which seems to be very eccentric in it's sociality! Wish me luck ...
Don't you just love them vans..!!!
I saw one when I visited the USA way back .. People were stopping to look at it back then..
great time and well deserved, sir!
It sounds like you had a wonderful time, with more to come ! I wish you lots of luck Cass, Annie too :upvote:

Sods law, I bet it was a mm too far between the tread & the sidewall.
It was close to the sidewall but I doubt it had damaged it. I think the law was tightened up a while back. I was checking tyre pressures and saw it. A different tyre was down a couple of pounds and the one with the screw hadn't leaked much at all. I'm wondering now about the one that was down a little. I'll just keep an eye on it.

I've not had anything from Greggs in an age now. Don't go into town very much at all. I used to like their steak bakes and there was a lattice thing that tasted of cheese and bacon - they tasted so good you'd almost swear that there was some cheese and bacon in them.

I've got a filtered tap that I use for filling the coffee machine. When watched it takes an age. If you turn your back for a moment to do something else the tap speeds up and it's all over the worktop.
I have a hot milk pan that does the same..
You can get them cheap at Asda.
Years back we bought a non stick frying pan cheap on the local market. Just frying up some bacon and eggs caused the coating to lift off.
We took it back. The stallholder looked at it and said "ere you've been getting this hot." He refused a refund til I stood in front of the stall waving the pan and telling the world what a load of old crap he was selling. The refund came quickly then.

Genius. You could patent that and set up a company plumbing them in.

They are stored in a drawer under the wall cabinets. There used to be more but those jobs don't get done now.
For instance this was the one I used to use as a haircut reminder. I no longer have the print.

That's some reminder! 😏
My wife cut my hair and that did sort of happen. It's why she hated it as a reminder.
I'm kinda guessing she must have hated you🤣🤣
There was a wedding next day...
It's why I was having the haircut.
Also why she was a bit tiddly.
So was I so that's why I let her cut it.
She shouldn't have left it half-done.
My wife cuts my hair (after all, it's free!). She does a very good job too, but as I'm thinning out a bit now, I asked her to leave a lot more than usual on top last time.
I suppose I should be realistic and admit that I must look for wigs before long. Or a hat, perhaps.
Why not grow some nasturtium on one side and comb it over?
It wasn't left half done. I always had a buzz cut. The job was done. Off came the little height of cut widget to trim up the bottom of the neck. She spotted some aerials and tidied them up without putting the height thing back on. Only the one swipe. The look on her face made the haircut worthwhile. It all had to be gone over the same as there was no way of hiding it.
I cut Sam's hair.. He wouldn't go into a shop for days..
He would give me the 'evil eye' even over the dinner table..
I'm a giggler which didn't help..
The funny thing was that his fire brigade hat looked too big..
My OH trained as a hairdresser when he was young, used to do friends and family, but only cuts his own nowadays. I help him out with the back.
My hair is curly :downvote:
So is my son's, and my granddaughter's. She spends ages straightening hers.

What's Pollo Italiano?
chicken with mushroom, herbs, and a sauce - I use Bolognaise and red wine, but there are alternatives
Had a google. Yours sounds more interesting.
Thank you - must admit that it is just a generic term
Yours sounds a bit more like an Italian version of Coq au Vin, which I can relate to somewhat!!
Especially since it sounds like something I'm more comfortable with using a slow cooker for.
Thanks for the starting point😊
you're very welcome - it's the sauce which 'Italianises' it

I couldn't find the Tesco club card I used the other week. Luckily I was able to use their app instead or I couldn't have got the 25% off F&F. I ordered a replacement though. As I hardly ever go to Tesco I'll probably lose that one too. I'm forever losing stuff these days. I'm sure I used to have a bag of marbles...

Fair chuffed with it. :yay: My Ex husband used to have a real American Aviation Jacket and it was never off my back as I loved it. All the money in the world can not make a person beautiful..
She had no right to be using the Diabetic Injections to lose weight. They are for people with type 2 diabetes. Because the private clinics saw a way to make money and charge a fortune they bought up so much of the stuff that the people who really need it can't get it, as the diabetic clinics can't get any more for their patients. The sooner it's stopped the better.
This came from my daughter's GP who sent my daughter to the Clinic for treating Diabetes.
Unrecognisable. She used to get the facelifts right in the past.
She looks dreadful !

Those pointy high heels were the business! I loved my stilettos, now I live in Skechers. 😢
Had a walk to the GP with my OH this morning. The surgery had asked him to come in, but the doc seemed a bit puzzled as to why he was there. He's to have another blood test tomorrow. Then I put in a couple of hours at the charity shop. My energy levels are i awful, I'm shattered.
Thunder. Can't see it though.

OH was told he needs another scan. He's been waiting to hear. He spoke to the receptionist at the GPs after his latest blood🩸 test, only to find out that its up to him to book it! Eventually got through to the right department today (14th in queue yesterday) and arranged it. Not the NHS as it once was. 😐
My call was about diabetes.. and results.. I don't even have diabetes.. Just on the borderline..
Fortunately nothing serious.. But it could have been..
It seems to be up to patients to find out what is happening concerning their treatment..
Mac that is plain ridiculous.
A couple of years back after my annual blood test (which they ignored the PSA test from) I got a letter saying I was borderline diabetic and included a link. I've heard nothing since apart from the emergency MRI as they did eventually spot the PSA result. I'm assuming they either only check one thing each year or the borderline diabetes has cured itself.
I got a notification that this year's review will be a phone call from the pharmacist. I guess she'll listen to me blow to guess if the asthma treatment is right. Not sure how she'll test the blood pressure over the phone or even if they'll be wanting a blood test.

Meanwhile, round my neck of the woods work continues to "improve" roads, largely (and very very slowly) by making cycle lanes everywhere thus reducing any change of parking which will have an adverse effect on trade for the many small shops that rely on passing shoppers pulling in for 5 mins to get something and moving on, and making sure that those with physical disabilities find it as difficult as possible to get to these shops and restaurants.
Naturally, the surrounding roads with houses on them have already seen a marked increase in traffic flow which, ironically, has made them a less safe place for cyclists who used to use them unimpeded.
Praise be to town and planning graduates eh?

The fish and chip shop beat supermarket offerings .. hands down..
how do you know?
Because I have tried both !!!! .. Just my opinion.. The batter is better .. lovely and crispy.. Each to their own.. I guess..
Ah, don't like batter - always breaded for me.
We have a fantastic chippie in the village and do use it. Don't always have a fish supper but everything they do tastes great.
I usually have a pack of 4 fillets either crumbed or with batter in the freezer as I do the fish in the oven along with minted wee potatoes and corn/peas.
Have recently started to have fish fingers occasionally for tea. Had forgotten how nice they are.
Heading into the village shop, need milk and Rolls, Duffas here forgot to put her purse in the car when she took Dageus out. [1100]
Best fish and chips I ever tasted were in Arbroath. Breadcrumbed haddock. Its always battered here, and it varies. The long time best local chippie owner retired recently, and the new owners haven't matched his quality.
I don't think I've ever seen a chippy sell breadcrumbed fish.
Me neither. Can't imagine they'd deep fry it in the main fryers.
They'd fry (anything fries) but a lot of breadcrumbs falling off into the oil would probably be a pain.
That was my thinking.
Quote from: Scrumpy on October 29, 2023, 07:51:28 AMThe fish and chip shop beat supermarket offerings .. hands down..
I agree Scrumpy, you can't beat fresh from the chippy :upvote: I mean you can get fish and frozen chips from the supermarket, but here the fish is really fresh and the chips are peeled on the premises, no frozen stuff.
I felt quite cheered up when I got in and realised I didn't have to cook anything, really enjoyed them too

Just in case anyone didn't know, it's the damp air that made Manchester and the surrounding area suitable for the textile industry.
I suspect plentiful cheap labour may have helped too

Is that just general hooliganism or is there some politics or criminality involved (not that there is a huge difference between the two).
The first time was about a year ago, no idea what kicked it off, I remember my daughter was driving home from work at the time and was on her "hands free" talking to me. She drove right past the end of the road it was going on in and I could hear the noise from it, it sounded terrifying.
Last night was probably too many idiots out in the streets and looking for mischief.

Although I'd avoid the American ones since they rather amusingly pronounce the word caulk as cock. Squeezing the cock properly does require practice for best results 😬

Our place is covered in leaves, usually they would have been gathered up in October but all this rain is making it impossible. They are soaked, the grass is soaked and it's a waste if time.
It will have to wait untill spring and things dry out then I'll get to it......Blooming weather, it's all out of sync.

frost all day yesterday, never got above 2C. First cuppa today
Cold again, gawd I hate the cold weather.
Blimey.. i couldn't believe how cold it was .. My car was frosted over.. I had to do a bit of scraping.. my fingers nearly fell off..
never got above 1C
Having a early night, can't believe how tired I am.
first cuppa Tesco delivery will be the highlight of the day
I'm up.. No frost.. Going out for coffee later.. I do not like these dark mornings and evenings.. When do the clocks go FORWARD.. ?
end of March. Long wait yet, I fear
On the train to Stockport to pick up my connection to Sheffield. An hour gap. Hot chocolate I think. I'm full of cold, can't wait to get home now.
The price of Black Friday. Deliveries most days this week.
Rain and more rain here
Dry here but really cold, had to scrape the car before I could go to the pool. :yell:
Went to specsavers and saw my estranged son working there. It's about 7 years since he cut all ties with the past. Anyway, eye test done, specs ordered, and my son is still unwilling to make any attempt to engage. Ho hum.
Sad when that happens. I've been lucky with my 3 although there have been the odd sticky patches.
He had got himself into an obsessive relationship with a girl back then, and lost the plot a bit. She was abnormally possessive and begrudged/ felt very jealous of him having any relationship with his family and indeed his lifelong friends. So he dumped all of us, including his friends (who were/are naturally upset). Think he's still with her.
I guess we'll now have to amend our wills since he made it clear that he wants no part of it.
Very sad Dextrous .. but it happens in many families..
I went into a shop many years ago only to be served by my teenaged son .. It was a little 'cobblers shop'.. and he came from around the back to serve me.. His face was a treat..
He got all flustered and told me he was there to pick up a pair of shoes for a teacher.. He was wearing an apron.. :nooo:
I'm so sorry for you both, I just can't imagine how being estranged from a child would feel. Although grown up they are still our children..
I agree Alex. One of my friends is in that situation, heart breaking.
It is sad... As a child gets older and has children of their own they realise how important a grandparent is..
Children can break your heart..
Good morning.. just had breakfast.. Sun is shining.. Washing in machine.. Must do some cleaning today..
Slept a lot yesterday, dozing this morning. Chest infection has wiped me out! I can't even be bothered with Wordle.
now that's serious!
Aww! GrannyMac... Rest up.. You will be fine..
So you can't do Wordle !! That gives me a better chance of coming top..
Hope you feel better soon GM, chest infections just knock me for six. Are you taking anti biotics ? I find lemon, ginger and honey in hot water helps, it doesn't cure it but makes me feel better :upvote: chin up girl
Thanks, but I think its probably viral, so antibiotics wouldn't help. If its no better in a couple of days, I'll try and get a GP appointment. Loads of fluids, paracetamol, rest. And Vick!
I'm really fortunate OH has been getting me hot drinks, and a bit of food, although I'm not really hungry. Ha ha to Scrumpy! My concentration is nil.
Have you ever heard about putting Vick on your feet ?
Am having a few days away from the forums. Yesterday was more emotionally draining than I'd expected.
Dextrous... I wish you well.. and hope you come back soon.
Chin up Dex hope to see you back soon. :upvote:
Hope your ok Dexie. :?:
Hope you are OK - all the best
AAAAAHHHH SNOW.:yell:
My daughter has snow in Devon.. Cold and frosty here..
Take care Raven..
just cold here, no precipitation forecast
An unpleasant reminder. Hope you can get over that soon.
Heating on, it's so cold 🥶
Mines been on since late October. I have turned it down some and some rooms are now unheated but the bill is still way over what it was.
That's a big pot of lentil soup with potatoes on to cook.
Very cold and bright again. I went back to bed. Just getting up for lunch now. 😋
I've got a pan of leek and potato soup on the go :upvote:
I had a sausage roll..
I've got a pan of leek and potato soup on the go :upvote: but I'd rather have a sausage roll
first cuppa. Forecast is that it will stay below freezing all day with a minimum of minus six
Everything is frozen over..
Many years ago a visitor at the hospital told his wife that his dentures had frozen in the glass of water overnight..
we had no heating in our bedrooms. Ice on the inside of the windows was the norm, and it was pointless taken a glass of water upstairs.
Coffee Toast and the fire.....Lovely. :check:
sounds good!
Gonna need that £500 if this carries on.

Hope today is a good day dextrous 🤞🏼

Its really icy outside again. Not rushing to get up, nice and toasty in my flannelette bedding.
I got up at 6am to put heating on early, then back to bed. Flannelette for me too GM :upvote:
such a heavy frost it looks like a thin covering of snow
I made a cup of tea and took it back to bed.. Then watched 'King of Queens' and 'Cheers ' on the tv..
Got up and took Dageus out early, just in time as the snows so thick now.
Tree up.. Christmas wreath on door.. Someone bought me an Advent Calendar I have just eaten day two.. Chocolate Father Christmas..
You're good! I'm still bunged up with cold can't even think about Christmas stuff.
Can hardly keep my eyes open, am heading away back to bed for a snooze. :busted:

Smoke alarm on stairs beeped all night, I 'beeped' too, I'm guessing it needs a battery.

Do we get a 10pound Christmas bonus.?
Yep. Unless you are a pimply teenager posing as a pensioner of course...
https://www.gov.uk/christmas-bonus
https://www.gbnews.com/money/christmas-bonus-dwp-state-pension-inflation
Probably costs as must to administer as it's worth.
Wonder why it's never been increased, seems we must be grateful and Shut up. :boo:
had it kept pace with inflation, it should, from memory, be around £178
First cuppa - rather later than usual
Too cold to get out of bed yet.
back below freezing - don't know what the roads will like after yesterday's rain
Just rain..
Today we have beautiful sunshine..
Sunny here to cheer me up. Plus a redelivery to wind me up because I can't go out in it.
Frosty here. Was supposed to be getting warmer as the week progressed. Once again the met office's dice came up the wrong way.
Sunny day here too, but my car is white instead of blue
No heating on today.. Maybe later..
below freezing all day
Can't sleep again... :boo:
first cuppa - and the forecast is heavy rain and a sizzling 5 to 6C Gosh!
Quote from: Alex on December 06, 2023, 10:55:33 AMSunny day here too, but my car is white instead of blue
So was ours! Damp, grey, but not icy today.
Hope the tiles stay on the roof, what a wind.
dull, dismal, dirty day and wet and windy with it
Went for a walk.. Cold.. No rain.. I have seen a couple of houses with garlands on door..
I'm still not going out. Coughing and wheezing like an auld wumman.
Damned printer nozzle is blocked on one colour. Head cleaning didn't sort it but there is some process called a "power clean" that you can use but have to leave it for 12 hours after. It wastes a fair bit of ink and shortens the printer life as it partly fills the waste ink pads. Worth a try though.
can't get back to sleep so first cuppa
Its dark, I'd like some more sleep please!
Woke up. Watched some tripe on Prime. So bad it sent me back to sleep.
Alexa says it's much warmer out today, but it doesn't feel warmer to me ! 🥶
Printer fix worked.
Finally got fed up of topping up pressure on boiler so put some sealant in. House is toasty because I'm keeping it running through all rads for a while to let it mix in. Set water temperature to low but the house is still warmer than usual. I'll try to not let it spoil me.
Still darkish.. and raining a bit.. Going out later for a coffee.
drizzle, damp and dank
Blue sky and drizzling here
Blue here too. At least I guess it is above the rain clouds
3rd week no fishing. Postie just delivered a toy from AliExpress though.
Wet, very wet. And dull.
Went to a garden centre today.. I bought a couple of things for the tree.. Bloody stupid.. The tree is already decorated..
I must stop this foolishness..
Card writing today. Still not 100% so easy does it.
Someone put a parcel in my porch this morning.. It was an Amazon order from a couple of weeks ago.. It went to the wrong address.. Thank you that person..
I had a policewoman after CCTV on Friday. I pulled off the timespan she wanted and while that was coming off we were talking about the chances of identifying a face. She mentioned it was a bald man wearing flaired trousers and possibly with some blood stains. I wasn't optimistic of being able to id whoever it was unless they were already known. I also suggested that just wearing flairs was good enough cause to arrest. She took the USB and departed.
I was curious and pulled the video down again. I reckon he must have known the camera was there as he faced away from it almost throughout. He was bald and from a distance looked like he had a beard but they weren't flairs which is a relief.
Lovely sunshine.. I have eaten three Maltesers.. no time to melt in my hand.. All three filled my mouth..
not a good day - step-daughter died a few hours ago
Mike, its always a tragedy when someone so young dies. I hope they, and you, have some support.
thank you, granny. Support, apart from the phone to Mary, my sister in law is being thrown away from me
Have you noticed, there are often tragedies around the world just before Christmas, makes people's loss even sadder.
Today it's a bright morning, ☀️ no rain, no wind, no ice, it makes a change.
My son in law Richard stepped out of his car and twisted his ankle on the curb.. Marnie took him to A&E and said he was to call her when finished.. She drove to a nearby chemist.. As she got back into the car Richard phoned her saying he had been X-rayed and could she pick him up..
Ankle badly sprained.. How quick was that..!!
That's pretty good service Scrumpy!
I went to the pub last night for food with the staff and other volunteers from the charity shop. My first venture out since being ill, really good to get out, but so tired afterwards, and I was home by 9!
Glad to hear you are feeling a lot better GrannyMac..
You will be well fit come Christmas.. Take little steps..
Got to get a new fridge freezer, Himself is like a bear with a sore head about the cost. :shh: Wait untill the New Years over and things are back to normal, we also need a new cooker. [2010]
Vairy interesting!

Progress? We had homemade carrot & leek soup today.
Progress indeed. As of Saturday, I won't be straining the soups quite so much.
Excellent news, although I do like soup to be quite smooth.
Truth be told, I'm probably having a healthier diet now than I've ever had. Protein drinks, freshly cooked soups (wherever possible), yoghurts, etc.
Am still losing weight, which is to be expected (I am now lighter than I was when I met my wife in 1991, and I was skinny then), but feel much better all round.
I like lumps.

Car, shopping bags, handbag, somewhere safe, junk drawer, gave them to a beggar outside Lidl, bread bin, dustbin. :x5:
It is starting to get dark here. I might pop out and put some neighbours cards in letterboxes..
I don't like doing it in daylight.. People might think I'm the postie..
I do the same! ☺️
I do them when I remember to write on them. Not arduous but not yet done.
I do them when it's dark too :x10: :x10: :x10:
I've had to do the Christmas cards despite not wanting to.
I intended, this year, to ask that Christmas cards aren't sent to me as I find them totally inappropriate since it's obvious, or should be, that for me it's the polar opposite of the 'festive season'.
However, yet again, I've put my feelings aside so that I don't upset anyone.
That's kind, they'll be meaningful to the people you send them to. And those who send to you will be thinking of you. Its a difficult path to tread.
my feelings as well. First cuppa

Great Mike, your not alone
Dreadful time of the year, I never go 'shopping' at all these days, far too tedious and exhaustive. Get all mine delivered by either Amazon or our local grocery market (a combination of many varied traders) you pay one source and they distribute the individual shops and stores their specific bills. So 15 orders from different suppliers, via one very large Mall, received in one go unpacked for you in the house - no delivery charge (they all share the cost) and a bottle of Ginger Port free as well.
You should be here at the moment ...
House filling up, 5 Dogs, Polecat (hiding in a Dolls House), deranged Parrot singing the US National Anthem at full belt (on the Hall Chandelier) and Bobo playing Boogie on the Piano underneath it! Local Sheriff on the Alto Sax in accompaniment (very good too).
Five ladies all shrieking with Laughter in the Kitchen, which resembles a 'Wine Bar'.
Then a Cricket Test match is on in the Study, much to the confusion of my American Cousins, who are being explained the LBW rule by my friend, an ex England no.4 Batsman to the seemingly constant cacophony of hissings, as beer cans join in the general medley of utter chaos!
Poor guy from Amazon tried to deliver something and just stood there laughing at it all!
Crazy but also rather wonderful!
Perfect chaos... Have a wonderful time Martin.. x
It sounds really good fun Martin.
For all of you who are able to enjoy this time of the year I do hope you have a good time too.

What a star! I bet he didn't know there were cameras. 😒
Glad you've had company Mike, I hope the weather picks up so you can perhaps get out a wee bit.
I saw them scattered on the path when I went out so pulled down the video. I put my neighbours into his front garden and left the other which was actually broken by the wall as I've no idea where it was brought from.
I don't do leftover food recycling myself and the bin my neighbour has is the one that was issue to me. His own just went completely AWOL. You only have to request replacements from the council anyway.
Interesting video.. I am fortunate that my bin men always put the bins back.. They don't throw them back..
I am well chuffed.. This morning I fitted a new showerhead.. Easy !! Of course it is.. After I worked out there was a protection cap over the bit that screws into the overhead connection .. I poked at it with a pointed knife and out it popped ..
And I have to stand on a stool.. :yahoo:
Woodworking, painting, shed building, plumbing. Is there no end to your skillset?
There is one advantage with slipshod binmen - they don't check what you've put in the bottom that you shouldn't have. The local tip is absolutely dire so my junk goes in the landfill bin either in one bit or over time.
Funny coincidence that Scrumpy did some plumbing and a few hours later my boiler has packed up. Just saying😬
Talk to her nicely and maybe she'll fix it for you.
I'll hold onto her legs while she's on that stool. Heaven knows where I'll have to put my face😬

We had our Yorkies on leads. The tide was in and up against the pathway which was in poor repair. One of them managed to fall through a hole and into the water below and was hanging on the lead. One very wet and sorry for herself dog.
Good job she was on a lead !

I keep thinking I should get up ! But it's warmer here.
I have a biological alarm. A very reliable one. I thank my lucky stars that so far it has always woken me up despite cursing it at times.
It would be so easy to stay in a warm bed.. But, silly me, happens to be a 'morning' person.. So at 8 am I jumped out of bed, put the heating on and went straight for a shower.. The house was very cold..
Sunshine... so cold outside..
Got up, mopped floor under leaking boiler, re pressurised boiler and turned it on. Had cuppa then shower, then walked to MIL to do daily caring chores, then home. Emailed council to get hold of litter picker and rubbish bags (have registered myself with them and a local voluntary tidying-up group.
Now relaxing before a bit of diy. Want to get some concrete/render laid so it can set before the really cold weather sets in in a few days time.
Up early for Sainsbury's delivery, then met a friend for coffee. We're both eating healthily so avoided our favourite coffee shop, as we'd have succumbed and had scones. Just had a very light lunch and debating whether to just sit here and faff on the iPad, or get changed and clean the bathroom. 🤔

Yes it was loose on the side of the A41 between Chester and Ellesmere Port which is dual carriageway and fast.. I put my 4 way flashers on and drove up on to the kerb, I got out but it was scared. Our snow is crunchy under foot, bloody freezing here. I haven't been out, plenty in the freezer to eat and my lad brought me some milk yesterday.
Rad fix worked and no flood. Oddly it still runs at a bit lower temperature than other rads. I noticed that a long time ago and hoped fixing the faulty valve might sort that too. I think the installer may have put it in series with another rad.

It's mostly common sense.
First I checked if it wanted bleeding. It didn't.
I turned the thermostic valve on and off a few times and gave it a few taps in case it had stuck (like thumping an old TV). Then the same with the lockshield valve at the other end. The pipe going to the rad was hot but the other end wasn't. Looks like a valve is partly blocked or stuck. Unlikely to be the lockshield as they are pretty crude.
Got a valve from Toolstation £13
Turned off boiler and all rads
Ready for a flood...
(https://i.postimg.cc/wvqRKjn3/prepare.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
Detached old valve fitted new one to rad quickly. Minor leakage. Original valve still on pipe in bowl.
(https://i.postimg.cc/5NVDFP6B/part-way.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
Swapped pipe from old valve to the new one on the rad. A bit more leaked.
Old valve and leakage in bowl.

I reckon some blokes dribble more than that in their pants.
I messed about with the old valve and couldn't find a fault. Maybe clonking it about changing it somehow sorted it. Maybe there was some crud in the rad but none came out. I don't really care.
Now be honest Alex was any of that beyond you? I doubt it. I only used the ring spanner while messing with the thermostat valve in place to see it it would miracuously start working again but it didn't. All that was needed was the adjustible. I will have to trim off some surplus ptfe tape as it looks untidy.

PTFE is unnecessary in that situation Klondy.
Probably as the olive stops the water but I had some and I'm a belt and braces sort of guy.
I wouldn't know what a lockshield valve was if I fell over one ! Plumbing is beyond me, though I have many years ago tackled tiling and I did all the decorating in our house. My loo got fixed today, new parts in the toilet, he had a job getting it away from the wall. I'm not too keen on his silicone job though.
Quote from: klondike on January 19, 2024, 06:40:55 PMProbably as the olive stops the water but I had some and I'm a belt and braces sort of guy.
Fair enough. If you ever need to replace the bit that actually screws into the radiator, then instead of using ptfe (I tend to use the yellow gas stuff which is thicker), get yourself some locktite55. Much easier to work with I've never had any problems with it.
Thanks for the tip. I didn't know there was special gas stuff. I did replace and more than once the bottle switchover thing on my static caravan and if that involved any thread sealing which I don't recall I would have used the PTFE tape.
I remember watching my father using some stringy fibre and boss white on some job or other he did. Watching him made me do virtually all my own home jobs later. I've given up on fixing cars now and can't even figure out what most of the bits under the bonnet even are these days.
Ahhh. Jute. Happy days, not!!
Quote from: Alex on January 19, 2024, 08:04:07 PMI wouldn't know what a lockshield valve was if I fell over one !
It's only the name you wouldn't know and the only reason I recalled it is because a lot of the radiator valves I found on the Toolstation web site were sold in pairs. It's just the one at the other end of the radiator from the one you can twiddle. It's used the balance the radiators. That's a job you do when you install one to adjust the flow to stop one rad hogging the lot. It's the same as the manual valve the other side but without the knob that turns it.

That was it. Basically threads of sting. A very messy job.
I must have nodded off after my evening meal. Just realised what the time is. Not watching anything on the TV yet. Think I'll do episode 5 of Reacher as the last episode should be out today then finish off with Farage on catch up.
Actually, you don't need to balance the system if you've got thermostatic valves.
Bugger. Forgot no Farage Friday and watch that one before.

I don't think they were invented last time I did any major central heating work back in the 70s. It's only been odd repairs since then.
My brother in law was a plumber and together we installed a system in a house I bought that had none. By together I mean he did it and I did the grunt work. At the time you gave the sizes and construction of all your rooms to a company he knew about and they came up with the design and sold you a kit of parts. The bit I recall most was getting the floorboards up.
It all worked very well. So well we virtually never used the gas fire. Then on one occasion we did rather than turning the whole system on we found one of the children had posted one of those sliding plastic block puzzles into the slot at the top of the fire. We never could stop it stinking so it didn't get used again. Probably sold the house with it like that. Must have I think.
Don't blame you. Running copper pipe across or even parallel to joists is a real PITA. Thank the lord for barrier pipe.
If that's the plastic pipe it's what they used here when I had it installed. I used some to put in an outside tap. Far easier than soldered copper joints or even compression joints. I don't think I'd have bothered with the tap doing it in copper just on cost alone.
True. Personally, I have concerns about the longevity of pushfit joints. Constant change of temp on those silicon/rubber compound O rings must surely limit its working life expectancy.
But I love the pipe itself. So quick and easy and forgiving in terms of cutting to perfect length.

Not sure if a ready meal is more or less interesting than a baked potato. It's less effort though.
About to have roast chicken etc. OH is a very good cook. 👍🏽
We got a carvery dinner from a Greene King place not too far away. Shared it between 3 of us (me, Mrs Dex and MIL). Enough left over for MIL to have tomorrow. Not bad for £11.99

I'm the same, borderline. Doesn't seem to matter how healthy I eat it's still the same result from the yearly blood test. :boo:

It never used to be like that Mike.

If it's just the one I'd bet on it being a loose screw in the switch or a duff switch. I found a screw loose in a light fitting once but that affected other lights too as they are all linked. I'm not suggesting that you look at it though.

This does not mean your letterbox. It doesn't even necessarily mean letterbox.
I discovered today it means if you can't find it there is a chance it has been slung on your neighbours step and the bloke has vanished before they got to the door.
I did look at the Amazon help for leaving feedback on deliveries. Despite them suggesting there is a way all you end up with is a video where they suggest if you cant find it by calling round to your neighbours you wait two days then contact their CS. Feedback - no way Jose.

This is an omission in my negotiation technique. Will deffo have to use it from now on. Wonder if the self serve checkout tolls at Asda will listen to me and give me a discount?
If not, I'll just have to use my new modus operandi by walking around the store with a bin bag and litter picker, picking up things from the shelves and putting the the bag and waking out without paying . Nobody ever seems to want to confront me. Maybe it's the sunglasses, builders' gloves and large brimmed hat from Temu that does it?😬

Still, worth a try. Ta.
My daughter ,Marnie.. bought me an alarm system.. If I press a button it automatically goes to a call centre who , will get in contact with a family member.. or ambulance.. police...
I told her that I don't need it.. I am able bodied.. I do all the upkeep on my house.. and the painting..
BUT she insisted .. her reason being that I live alone..
I don't argue with the kids.. You never know when they come in handy..
And because of this alarm.. Virgin seem to move quicker when needed..
Don't forget to "accidentally" 😉 set it off a times, making sure your phone is off the hook so ringing you is pointless.
She, or someone else on the list, will have to come round to check on you, and it'll irritate the heck out of them.🤣😬😬😬
I bought my mother a phone that dialled three possible numbers should she press the alarm button which was supposed to hang around her neck.
After a couple of false alarms where she had nodded off and somehow triggered it it seems she took to taking it from around her neck and leaving it on a coffee table. She went to the kitchen to make a drink leaving it on the table. Then she collapsed and couldn't get up. It took 12 hours or more before the neighbours investigated the tapping on the wall with her stick. With some houses she wouldn't have been found at all. There was no happy ending even after she was found.
I'd advise against false alarms.
Apologies for my misplaced attempt of humour.
Those alarms sound a good idea BUT, don't they only work on landlines? No good if you only have a mobile.
:boo:
If you've got a mobile with Wi-Fi or data, then there'll be apps and Bluetooth/wifi connected emergency buttons available. Possibly more useful if you're out and about since gps tracking will probably make your whereabouts known.
Over to Klondy for clarification....
Not really investigated. The phone I gave to my mother was landline based but could dial any number. Monitored ones would probably be landlines but I don't see that they would have to be.
Not done anything about it for myself but I am usually more careful to have a mobile in my pocket these days - mostly because I gave up on a landline. I mostly get begging calls on it but sometimes it's somebody other than my childen
There are probably sign of life devices that can send alerts and those alerts could be to something like Whatsapp which is pretty ubiquitous these days. As I said though I haven't investigated.
Ok. I was wondering about the technical plausibility of these things existing.
Well a mobile phone can dial out so a purpose built box triggered by a wireless panic button could too. Whether there are any that do I couldn't say.
The most reliable way would be some sensors around the house that monitor movements and are linked up to a smart device that sends an alert if there are no or only limited movements for a prolonged period. Cheap PIR devices could do the detecting. I already have some - a burglar alarm. It would just need different logic.
Damp old day today.. Went out for a coffee..
School break , so there were many children in town .. The coffee shops were busy.. Picked up a Greggs sausage roll and coffee.. Sat on a bench inside shopping area and did a bit of people watching..
A man sat next to me and told me about his poorly leg..

There was something else just the other day but I forget exactly what.
Saw daughter today. She'd dug out an old laptop that somebody gave her years back. She thought it was bust. It's just clunky and the battery was flat. Dodgy copy of windows and runs like a dog.
I'm installing Linux on it which has been fun. It's too old to boot from usb so I needed to put the install on a dvd. My ancient usb dvd writer just kept throwing errors. Then I realised the laptop has a dvd writer. Trouble was it wouldn't recognise the pen drive I put the install on to make the dvd. Ended up doing it over the network.
It's all so incredibly slow. Once it's all done she probably won't like Linux.

You could try putting Linux Mint on it to make it look like Windows. That's what I did for my old netbook laptop. The machine was and is still sluggish, but still usable (not that I still use it), it was just an exercise to get Linux on it via a USB key which I loaded up with a working version (live) of Mint before transferring the program to the netbook. A useful learning experience, but not any real good in use due to the age and restricted processor/hardware on the netbook.

School break , so there were many children in town .. The coffee shops were busy.. Picked up a Greggs sausage roll and coffee.. Sat on a bench inside shopping area and did a bit of people watching..
A man sat next to me and told me about his poorly leg..

Quote from: klondike on February 13, 2024, 06:43:15 PMWell a mobile phone can dial out so a purpose built box triggered by a wireless panic button could too.
Alarm companies are moving away from landline technology as the rollout of digital voice / VOIP gathers pace.
There are 'man down' alarms that combine fall detection with no movement.

Quote from: klondike on February 14, 2024, 07:29:53 PMSaw daughter today.
Good job we have a boring thread.
I'll second that 😉
Quote from: Judd on February 14, 2024, 08:47:09 PMYou could try putting Linux Mint on it to make it look like Windows.
Yes its Mint I'm putting on it. This machine is an antique - no option to boot fom USB and it was a game producing a DVD for it as none of my machines have them now. The install may still be chugging.

That old laptop with Mint installed was still unusable. I dug into my box of bits and upped the memory from 2 to 4GB and replaced the disk with an SSD. The Celeron 900 CPU must be a real dog as the performance is still pretty awful. She can choose whether to keep it or junk it. I'll have my bits back if it is junked.

Walked to the post office and zig zagged up and down roads on the way back, doing one of my litter picking runs. Only half filled a bag, which is a good sign, for I have this area under my control now😬

I have a feeling we're not done with winter yet though.
Two daffodils..
I have just done a dark wash ,plus white tissue, in the machine..

No plans today, lemon chicken 🐔 for dinner
I've spent an hour clearing dead leaves from the garden, lots of snowdrops and crocuses, some cyclamen too. The grass needs a good cut, but its too wet. Just had lunch, off to do some retail therapy shortly. We're having chicken for dinner too.

Heavy frost... sunshine.. That's the weather report.. The news will follow shortly..
The rad I thought I'd fixed stopped working again. I'd swapped the thermostic valve and it started working again. I was suspicious when I found the old valve was working but thought banging it about had unstuck it. Seems it was the minor draining when changing it had shifted some muck. I did a very minor flush through and it's working again but this coming week isn't the time to risk any major fiddling about - that can wait til summer.

My son too always comes up smelling of roses while my youngest daughter seems to get nothing but bad luck. No sooner had she completed her degree in Sports Injuries than lockdown struck buggering up her chances of expanding or even retaining the business she'd been building as a personal trainer and remedial masseur. She's working as a phsyio assistant at a local private hospital instead and needs to do another year at uni to be an NHS approved physio which she may or may not be able to do.
I hope she can klondike. It could make all the difference to her career.
Good luck to your daughter Klondike..
She's hoping the private hospital may help in some way. She did a 3 year degree and got a first with honours and also has some other qualifications within the field but needs something extra for an NHS recognised qualification. Perhaps if she bought an offshore degree...
My daughter needed to convert her nursing diploma to a degree to move into her specialist field. She was allowed study time, and fortunately it was funded. It's been the worth the hard work!

The one in Northampton closed years back. The one in Kings Lynn where we had a caravan closed too and that must be over 3 years ago. High Street shops are pretty much doomed M&S included. They'll cling on for a while but they'll go eventually.

Quote from: Scrumpy on March 16, 2024, 08:54:11 AMI love junk shops and car boots..
Been a long time since I went to a car boot. I gave up when I realised that 50% of the stalls were selling stuff I'd put in the bin to save a charity shop the trouble of doing the same. Some of the others would be selling stuff you could get in pound shops cheaper. The small number of interesting stalls were just swamped out by those nor worth getting out of bed to see.
No junk shops around here. There is a long road of shops nearby most of which seem to be hairdressers, takeaways or foreign supermarkets which will occcasionaly have one but they rarely last long before something else replaces them.

There's one in the streetview above. I doubt it's there now.
(https://i.postimg.cc/kgfpNMX8/Image1.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
I used to enjoy car boots, and auctions. Not been to any for years. There are lots of charity shops here, as well as the one I volunteer in. They're always busy, I only tend to buy books. My aim is to get rid of things, not leave more for someone else to have to sort out!
I enjoy a trip round charity shops, or used to. We would go to posh places like Wilmslow and Formby where we could get a "better quality" of tat  Everyone jumped on the band wagon though and today 'posh' charity shops are no longer.....
Some charity shops ask for too much money.. I am not a designer label shopper .. I always cut labels out... But I hate paying over the odds for something from Primark.. Most of my reading books are from charity shops..
Waitrose do a book shelf in their coffee shop.. You can just pick up a book .. take it away.. I often put a couple of books on the shelf..
Yes many charity shops forget that charity goes both ways and offering especially childrens clothes cheap would help out many poor families. What doesn't get sold in the shops just gets bagged up and sold for a pittance making those who ship it to the third world very rich. Or at least that was the gist of something I read a while back.
Yesterday I put , fully working, microwave at my front gate.. FREE..
It went within the hour..
That was a tip trip saved.. :yahoo:

We do a good trade in kid's clothes, often they're in really good nick. We have an arrangement with a local school, they get uniforms donated, they send them to us, we steam them, if they're reusable. Badged blazers £5, ties £1.50. They get snapped up.
Sounds good.
Some schools go for colours that aren't covered by supermarket kit and that often costs a lot. When I was at school the blazers were pretty generic (but there were no supermarkets then of course) while badges, caps and ties came from the approved outfitters. I have no idea if they were expensive or not.
Hooray!! I have cut mt my grass..
Yipetty-do-dah I don't have any grass
Ours may get cut later, its a lovely day.
Weeding the back garden today.. I bloody hate it.. But happy when it is done..
I cut my grass a couple of days ago. Thought it'd be nice to give the moss a bit of an airing 🤬🤬
My grass needs a good feed.. Any suggestions please.. ?
I do have a few weeds showing through.. Is there anything on the market that will feed one thing and kill another thing .. at the same time..?
Most selective lawn weedkillers claim to do that.
Like a Summers Day here..
But I won't be taking my vest off yet..
Like a summer's day here too. Overcast not very warm and a vague possibility of rain.

Making yellow split pea and ham soup, it's cold here but sunny.
Going to clean the motor today.. Fairy washing up liquid in warm water..
No gimmicky products for me..
She always looks good after her spring bath..
Dull day! I got a lovely teeshirt in the Charity shop yesterday, Lands End, looks brand new, £3. Can't complain.
Lidl. Oh the excitement. Maybe they'll have chainsaws in.

Spot on.
I remember the first time I went into an Aldi they were selling sledgehammers. Now I may be odd but if I wanted a sledgehammer my first port of call wouldn't be Aldi. So. Who the hell makes impulse purchases of sledgehammers? That said I've now got two 75m rolls of 6mm rope as I found when I put the one away I'd picked up the other week as it might come in handy sometime for something.
I've been to Aldi this morning, every so often they sell a cosmetic I like, they've just got some in, so I've bought two. And a new clothes prop. 😂
I'm feeling proud today - I resisted all the Middle of Lidl stuff.
I went to Frodsham market, didn't see Gary Barlow.
Does Gary Barlow work there..?
Hosed out my wheelie bins.. Had a coffee break with mate..
Going to paint my old kitchen dresser over the weekend..
My kitchen is modern except for the old dresser that I can't bear to part with..

I agree!
He still often goes back to see his Mum too :upvote: bless.......

Just put an undercoat on the kitchen dresser..
Meanwhile I've been making sure my sofa doesn't float away.
Wot !!! [2040]
It never has floated away so far but I take no chances and park my backside on it quite frequently to make sure it stays put.

Have you got a Dunelm locally? Might be worth a try.
ooooh yes I forgot about Dunelm :upvote:
Finished my paint job.. Fed the lawn ... just grass really.. but lawn sounds posh..
Grass sounds posh. Much posher than burdocks, dandelions and daises
I woke up at 5am this morning .. made a cup of tea and took it back to bed.. Had a look out of the window and saw a beautiful red fox strolling up the road..
I have a street light and school security lights .. It is never really dark outside my home..
Thanks FedEx. Was going to do Lidl early but their email gave 8:30 to 12:30 as the delivery window. Turned up a 3:00 by which time it was raining. It had been dry all morning.
Sunshine.. Lots of it.. WALKING into town with my mate.. It's alright going there.. downhill.. It's the coming back.. uphill..
Shopping with my non-driving mate soon......a trip to Costco too, just for the samples
Not heard of Costco before - what do they sell?
I've been shopping, butchers, Sainsburys & Lidl, met friends, came home had lunch, did some ironing. And...relaxing now.

Meeting two old work colleagues today for lunch, so not really boring
Might clean up my outside steps today.. ready to paint them..
Lidl, Truly boring.
2,000 pounds to sort my roof out.. The ridge tiles are loose.. cement worn away.. Lead is split.. and some wonky tiles.. 2 days work.. At least it's a job out of the way..
My neighbour spotted the problem when he saw that a ridge tile had slipped and was lodge on the roof..
Roofers are here.. thank goodness it's not raining.. :yahoo:
Are they using a scaffold or just roofing ladders?
Roofing ladders.. It certainly looks good.. Black soffits.. drip trays.. guttering.. 3 workers.
They are here again tomorrow..
David, my neighbour, was impressed..They are doing his roof next.. And it didn't rain.!!

We were stuck in traffic jams on the M6 earlier, after a few days at Center Parcs in Cumbria. All the kids, tweens and teens basically entertained themselves! We all got together in the evenings for drinks, quizzes etc. We rarely see OHs family who live in Scotland, it was a nice change.
Staying at son's tonight, home tomorrow. It'll feel very quiet.

Ah names from the past. The current Dunhelm store here occupies the old Comet building. I think they were one of the first big names to go under. Toys R Us having stood empty for years is now a Home Bargains.

Thanks Scrumpy, Doc just phoned and we had a good chat about it all. Not 100% calmed down, but mostly. Got to start the meds today. He basically said my bones gave gone from being Brighton Rock to Edinburgh Rock. Need to do weight bearing exercises too, as swimming is not enough or the type needed.

Quite the opposite, they are turning brittle and it seems that's why when I fell last year my bone didn't just break it shattered, giving the surgeon a hell of a job. Doc said yes I should have been black n blue but landing on my butt should not have broken any bones.....especially that one as it's the strongest bone in the body.
As for Nicola's MIL's camper I'm more inclined to run her bloody husband over with it. The silly damn fool. :nooo:
It's all those years in the hot sun up there in t'north. Ordinary glass is turned into safety glass through additional heating, so that it shatters instead of snaps. Your bones are now safety grade bones.

MAFSA can be very entertaining.. Alex and I often discuss what is going on.. Good fun..
In which case I withdraw my glib comments. It would be appropriate for me to try and watch an episode or two before jumping to an actual conclusion.

Of course it is. But where would one be without the standard rebuttal of such reality shows?? It was my duty to take up the mantle.
I have watched entire series of this kind of thing in the past and become internally involved (if you catch my drift) with them, feeling a sense of loss when they come to an end. Funny old feeling really, especially when upon reflection, it's not really a strong argument to defend them as examples of anthropological studies.😉😬🤣🤣

So bloody cold here but sunny.
Beautiful day, been to the garden centre for coffee this am. Going to pot a few plants now. Its quite warm in the sheltered bit of the garden.
I've cut the grass.. and re-potted some sunflowers.. They are getting tall..
I've stopped for coffee, not used to the sunshine! It's so warm, i've done a few pots, and need a rest indoors now. Hopefully the course of B12 injections starting tomorrow will give me a boost . OH has just pu the kettle on.
Had my phone consultation with the surgeon yesterday. He's booked me in for a barium meal and will then most likely stick a balloon down to perform a dilitation. Hopefully all sorted by summer!!
All the best for you Dextrous .. I do hope it gets sorted for you..

The sun is out here today, but it's still chilly, I'm glad the fleece is still over the chair.

Ah, memories! I have assisted in dozens of barium meals (and enemas!), though not many dilatations.
Honestly, nothing to worry about and completely painless, although not sure about the dilatations! (Sorry!)
I've had my first B12 injection today. Another on Friday, and more next week.
Storms overnight.. The lightning went on and on..
I need to paint some of my wall again.. The rain took much of the paint off..
A bit like the Golden Gate bridge... it never gets finished..
Painting a wall is always a mistake. Produces never ending maintenance and most ot the time looks worse than the natural finish whatever that was.
My grandfather built a lean to against a garden wall and painted it white to give his tomatos more light. The lean to is long gone but I still have to paint that wall or put up with it looking untidy.
It's a retaining wall.. Either side of wide steps leading down to the house..
It also continues one side to the back entrance..
Had it all been brick I would have left it alone.. but , unfortunately when we built the house we were on a tight budget so we used some breeze block..
It looks attractive when painted but bloody scruffy in the winter months..

I occasionally tutor someone who lives just outside Prestbury. Bit of a drive for me, but it's nice to get out into the country now and again.

Mine always get a clean when it rains. And when it is serviced.
Car all done.. Coffee time..
I have painted that bloody wall.. and the sun is out.. no rain.. !!!!!
Another sunny day..
Free goat

What's not to like?
Trying to take my mind off things, been to the garden centre and will spend time outside this afternoon potting up all my tubs.
Good for you Raven.. I know how damned hard it is..
Free goat! Does that really tempt anyone? 🤢
I have never tasted goat.. Nor kangaroo.. or any meat that is foreign to me..
I was in Norway once and was slightly tempted by reindeer but couldn't eat Rudolph so I stuck to a chunk or Ermintrude.

Today wasn't boring
It wan't for me either. Coffee with a friend, then I bought some new clothes, in a smaller size! :yay: Sat in the garden in the afternoon, got two lines of washing dried. All good really.
Out for coffee later.. No coat..

That sounds very suspicious to me... Something going on there.. !!

That is something well worth celebrating.. Well done..
Well done GM :upvote: it's hard for wrinklies to lose weight, I've been trying for years
Thanks ladies! Getting a pre diabetes warning kicked it off! I've lost almost 2 stone since January, and I feel so much better. My arthritic knee has really benefited.
I had the first meeting with my "Health and Wellbeing" councillor the other day which the GP recommended. Seems that is mostly aimed towards weight loss. I'd be happy with a stone off. Been trying to do that with zero success for years.
He's had me recording food intake each day til the next session next Friday. I think that alone has cut me down some on picking.
Picked up the meds that are supposed to be an alternate to statins once I get the nod following a blood test (over 2 weeks lead time on what used to be a walk in service). Read up on the tablets. Seriously unimpressed with the potential side effects. I will give them a go but if I get any of the listed common side effects I won't be joining...
Common side effects
These common side effects of ezetimibe happen to more than 1 in 100 people. There are things you can do to help cope with them:
Stomach (abdominal) pain
Diarrhoea
Farting more than usual
Feeling more tired than usual
https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/ezetimibe/side-effects-of-ezetimibe/
My biggest issue was sugar. I don't like tea and coffee unsweetened, and sweeteners always tasted weird. I found a sugar alternative, Stevia, I now use that. I can sprinkle it on cereal and in porridge. The demerara is particularly good. My sweet tooth used to lead me to ice cream, cake, chocolate etc. I now really limit my intake of those, but I have the odd treat. Snacking in the evening is under control too! Alcohol, especially beer and wine, is full of sugar. Gin and slimline tonic is much better!
There are so many things we can eat, we had grilled bacon medallions, with poached egg and tinned tomatoes on wholemeal toast last night. Easy tea, and it's salad weather now, even easier.
I hope the meds work for you, OH and son both have had side effects from statins, but moving to different types seems to be working for them.
Just finished painting the banisters around my decking..
So, so boring.. It has taken 2 days.. but I did it..
Three reasons why I dread the Summer -
i. It is too hot - anything over 60f and I am done for!
2. The thunderstorms that usually arrive with the good weather. Having had 3 x close encounters of the very scary kind - I fear them!
3. Barbeques - the stench of the food and the noise of those supposedly cooking it - just nasty!
noise of those supposedly cooking it
We had one of those. Volume was an excellent measure of his blood alcohol level. Other times he was fine for the most part. Not that we were ever friends - no barbeque invites and we wouldn't have wanted one.
I really like the BBQ smells wafting over into my garden, makes me feel hungry though
I love the summer.. It is good to hear neighbours enjoying themselves..
BBQ's are fine..
The winter is a long time..
I hated next doors barbecue in Perth, the sun only had to blink and they had the damn thing out. It reeked, and the smell got into any washing I had on the ropes, and it drifted into the house through the back door.
Soooo glad when they moved away.
We often have friends over for lunch on a nice warm Sunday, we eat and socialise outside but all the food is prepared in the kitchen and meats cooked in the oven then brought outside.
The young family next door had a bbq yesterday, her parents were there. Its not a regular occurrence, and we've had them in the past, so can't complain. We sometimes have one when we visit our son, he likes outdoor cooking. He also has a pizza oven, he made some last weekend. Lovely 🍕 No neighbours close enough to notice.
My neighbours are cooking something that smells very interesting.. So much better than my boring salad..
Mary, my s-i-l left for home after being here for two weeks, so I am having to get used to the emptiness again
Heading back to the pool shortly, I need to get back to some sort of normality.
Mike and Raven - Keeping busy helps a wee bit in both circumstances. I hope the sun is shining where you are too. It's been lovely here for the last couple of days.
No sun... chilly...

Chilly enough for heating?
Been nice most of May here apart from a couple of days early on. My weather station does catch the sun some of the day so the highs must be taken with a pinch of salt but it has been shirtsleeves weather in the main.

Yes your correct and that's what I'm trying to do. :upvote: Had my swim and drank my latte at "The Front" watching the waves. I should be getting ready to go out with Dageus, but I'm finding it hard to get out of the habit.
Dull and breezy here no sign of the sun, back into long sleeves today.

That thought will be with you for ages..
It must be really hard for you..
My love to you..x
I bought a scratch card.. Didn't win..
I didn't buy a scratch card and saved £2. I wish I hadn't bought a £5 card
One day Klondike... one day....
From observation of others...
Buy scratch card. Rinse and repeat.
Buy a winning scratch card.
Spend the (small|) proceeeds on more scratch cards.
It's nearly as bad as voting and expecting the lot you voted for to win and then go on to deliver all the stuff they promised.
Of course every day somebody wins a sizeable amount. I suspect that usually those are the people who have already spent a sizeable amount on them though.
I put a scratch card or lottery ticket in the envelope when I send a birthday card
That's a nice idea Alex. 👍🏽

He who dares.......
Another night of not being able to sleep. How I hate these type of nights, I'll be a wreck by morning. :worried:
I sleep, but I wake up at silly o'clock and can't drop off again. 🥱🥱
Well I was right, went back to bed just before 3am, slept in and missed my pool time gggrrrr.
I woke at 5:30.. Made a cup of tea.. Watched Ed Balls and Susanna Reid talk a load of crap.. Did my head in... I got up at 6:30..

I'll admit there is more chance of getting rich on a scratch card than getting a decent government.
Having bought stuff on Ali Express they send me regular emails of stuff that may interest me. Now they frequently miss the target and I really have no interest in this tuff, I'm not even sure how it is used but maybe the ladies here might know...

Hhhmmmmmm. :hmm:
At a rough guess, I'd suggest that you apply this to your arse... to make it look beautiful.
Well yes. I was wondering just how it might be applied . External or internal for starters
If you lived nearer I might have shown you.

😂😂
Naughty.
A bit of drizzle today..
Blood test later. Told I have to fast for it
Wish they had made the appointment faster. Since I booked it last month I've had covid and recovered. It used to be a walk in service. Talk about going to the dogs.
