Any advice?

Sheila

We get on very well with our lovely neighbours, except for the couple next door.  For instance when I told her we were getting a new kitchen she replied 'oh we don't need a new kitchen because we  look after ours'!  Her garden is better than ours, her blinds are better than ours (according to her).  Relations are not genuinely friendly, unlike those with the rest of the neighbours.

They are both deaf but like music in the garden, so they leave the patio door open and put it on full blast.  That is annoying but yesterday they sat in the garden with a dreadful play on the radio.  There was plenty of shouting and awful music in the play and I was trying to sit quietly and read my book.  I was too annoyed to say anything to them as I could have ended up being a bit nasty.  I don't usually swear but ended up telling Paul what I thought of them and at least it made him laugh.

Any advice as to how I can get them to be a bit more thoughtful?

Neighbours like that don't change. The 'my house, my garden, I'll do what I like' types are a scourge!

You could of course play some thrash metal or loud rap next time they decide to share their noise with the neighbours.....
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

Sheila

I'm ashamed to admit that I did that once.  The noise coming from their house was horrendous so I put Bohemian Rhapsody on full blast right next to their wall.

I love Bohemian Rhapsody..  The louder the better..

Sheila.. Don't do anything love..  You could make it much worse.. If you are unfortunate to have a bad neighbour ..  avoid them as much as you can..
Swear at Paul..  He will love this new exciting woman in his life...
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Are they new neighbours Sheila  ?
You could of course try ' creeping '    Give then some apples from your garden, or the bottle of red wine that you were "given" but you only drink white.    :yay:  getting them on-side would make it easier for you to politely ask for the music to be tuned down.  Failing that, you'll just have to come inside and bang the door - which they wouldn't hear if they're deaf, but it would make you feel better.

Hope things improve for you as the weather seems to be getting better in our neck of the woods. :upvote:

Nearly 30 b''''y years Alex!

We were at a party once and our friends brought a man to us and said 'guess who these two live next door to?'.  When the man discovered who it was he said 'you poor buggers'.

had a similar problem many years ago. Back then I had a reel-to-reel tape recorder. Prepared a loop of an extract from the 1812 overture - the really noisy bit with cannons etc., left it playing full blast and went for a drive - they took the hint

Oh dear, I guess a few apples won't work then.   :boo:

Let it go Sheila.. At least you know what you are up against..
.. and you are speaking..
Nothing worse than neighbours you 'Don't talk' to.. That can become nasty..

Just don't invite her in for coffee..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

You're right Scrumpy but I was so annoyed the other day when my peaceful read in the garden was destroyed.  I would have taken my book over the road to a neighbour but the people next door to her have gone away while a huge noisy and messy job is being done on their house so she was seething too!

I suppose we should have taken ourselves off somewhere peaceful.

Most of us have work carried out on our homes over the years.. Sometimes it can be noisy.. We should accept that.. After all it could be the work on OUR houses that is noisy..
Life is too short to worry about a bit of banging about..
Perhaps I am a bit too laid back.. Maybe.. But I have really good neighbours.. all round..
And they will drop all to help me..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

You need a young nephew who is learning to play the trumpet.

Raven

Or a teenager learning drums in the garden shed. :yell:

I'm beginning to wonder where the problem with your neighbours lies.

Maybe you should relocate to the Highlands.

We've got a new housing development being built across the road so we get the constant noise from that all day 5 days a week.

But other people had the same noise when our development was being built.

They are having some very noisy work done on their house at the moment but I am not moaning about that even though some of the mess is on our path and has blown in through our windows.

He brought a radio out into the garden and played it very loudly on the other side of the fence and that is what I object to.

Are you in The Highlands?  I think that is maybe not for me!
