what about the pensioners.

It seems that the government is more concerned whether or not Boris told the truth about the party he originally supposed to have banned but went to one instead,

mean while the u.k is spending billions helping Ukraine defend itself to which we all agree and rightly so, however it seems that back home the government seems more concerned about Boris where as i would have  thought more emphasis would have been centred on the millions of people including many pensioners as to how they are going to manage
paying all these increases which apart from gas and electric   where is the money coming from for them to pay the bills ,

the chancellor is saying next year we will get a decent pension , even though he has robbed us of the money we should have had this year
that but its this year we need it not next year, as for many people they might not be alive to receive it .

so what is parliament all about simply yes men who seem to forget their pay rise and ignore the pensioners  after all to them were expendable not worth thinking about , as the chancellor decides which of the five cars he has to drive about in,

i sincerely hope all pensioners will give the tory government a good drumming and i hope they lose power as  they have without doubt neglected us all together and  for got about the living standards which thousands of people are struggling as it is ,

Q; SO WHY HAS THIS GOVERNMENT FORGOTTEN  US ,
have you any thoughts on how we can pay this government back for ignoring us  perhaps through the ballot box like we did with brexit,
maybe ,.

Alex

I agree with you Alfred about giving the Tories a drumming, BUT what would the alternative be like ?  We really are stuck between a rock and a hard place  :downvote:

Alfred
be careful of that for which you wish. The alternative is Labour, with a high probability of Starmer being ousted by the hard left. I have lived through the premierships of Attlee, Wilson, Callaghan, Blair and Brown. Each and every one of them left the country in a parlous state.

To be fair, Attlee came to power at the end of WW2 when a lot needed to be done, but in 6 years of centralised socialism, things stayed pretty much the same for most people, and the beginning of nationalisation saw much that was hidebound for years to come. Again, to be fair, the early years of the NHS were a godsend for many - but just look at it now!

We need a Labour Government, as pensioners have always been far better off under Labour.

Well apart from pensioners like me when Labour scrapped the State Pension adult dependent allowance of £50 a week.

Pensioners are old enough to remember the chaos that the previous Labour Governments have subjected us to, ranging from Callaghan's discontent to Blair's wars, so voting Labour is not an option.
The problem with being retired is that you never get a day off

Indeed we don't, which is why my post had a generous amount of sarcasm in it.

Sheila

I'm not keen on politicians of any party but do remember the mess that previous Labour governments have left.  Wasn't there a note left in the treasury saying there was no money left?

Liam Byrne I recall, similar from Reggie Maudling to James Callaghan in 1964: "Good luck, old cock ... Sorry to leave it in such a mess."

Kick the Tories out and we could end up with the Labour Party and the SNP sharing power

The cost of the coalition would certainly be another referendum and the way things are looking I'd say there is every chance of the next government being Labour/SNP. So which way will the referendum go? Will the English care? I can't answer that although I believe it would be a mistake for Scotland.

Alex

Good grief the thought of the SNP being in power here is the stuff of nightmares. The  "Let me be clear " woman, combined with the weak Keir Starmer, geez she'd eat him for breakfast

If it did happen, would wee Krankie have to move down to London ?

Sturgeon doesn't stand for British government elections elections. She is First Minister in the Scottish Parliament. She could direct her Westminster troops without any need to move to London.
