Title: Inflation
Post by: klondike on February 04, 2022, 10:12:30 AM
I don't keep supermarket receipts. I don't take that careful a note of repeat buy pricing. I did notice the price on the bag of coffee beans I bought the other day was £1.49 and thought I'm sure they were £1.29.

I remembered the Lidl app stores your bills.
7 Jan I got some £1.29
18 Jan £1.49 over 15% more

Still we get our 3% pension rise in a couple of months. We cleary didn't need the 8% we were promised under the triple lock.

I don't trust supermarkets one bit, and think you would be wise to keep and check your receipts.  Yesterday Morrison's "done me" for £2.10, the four pasties I bought were marked up as special offer at £1.25, the till charged me £1.80.  I got my money back when I queried it.  This sort of thing has happened on numerous occassions, they are getting away with a lot of money from people who  don't check their receipts.

I just pay up and leave the store.. Me and a few thousand others..
I never think to check my bill.. I do notice that I seem to be paying more than usual..

I used to check my receipts but can't be bothered now as they whizz you through the check out so quickly.   I do have a look when I get home though.  Over the years I found Iceland to be the worst offender.

.. and the bloody people standing behind  in the queue would 'Sigh' loudly if you was to query a bill.. Everyone is in a hurry..

I whizz through the Asda receipt while Paul is unpacking the trolley and getting rid of it.  I was overcharged by £4.75 a few days ago so took the offending shopping back in and got a refund.

Another time a crusty baguette was labelled as two baguettes and the price doubled.  I went back in and the assistant reckoned someone had a hangover!  It it's pointed out to the staff, it saves other people being overcharged.

but if you try leaving the store without paying its a crime... why isnt it criminal when they do it?

My mate left a clothes store with an item still on the hanger attached to her bag.. !!
The alarm never sounded and she was unaware of the mistake..

My wife keeps and checks all receipts where they come from and at times she has found a few  discrepancies where  items was swiped twice through the checkout. of course we got our money back , how ever it isn't every time but it does pay to check .........................just in case,

I always check my till receipt before I leave the store.  :upvote: I find mistakes too often and it's easier to check before going home and then having to return along with all the messages.

My husband was stopped by security taking the trolly of shopping out of Asda.  I had gone to the loo and I had the receipt in my bag, he waited ages with people looking at him as if he was a shoplifter until I came out.  We were not best pleased, what if we had no receipt , many people don't bother with them. They said it was routine, but I don't think you should be stopped like that without good reason, really upset us and I avoid Asda these days.  I get a receipt for everything however small.

My ADSA self sevice checkouts give you the choice of no receipt. In fact they don't print one unless you press yes within 10 seconds. I always take one to avoid any problem. As I always pay by card the transaction would be recorded so I'd have no legal issue but there could be inconvenience.

I thought that store security staff had to have a reason for checking a customer's shopping, not have random checks.

Were you given a reason?

No we were not, only that they made random checks, I don't think they are actually allowed to do that without good reason we complained to the manager  as it was quite busy and everyone was looking at us as if we were shoplifters. he just backed up his security men, should have taken it further really.

I don't think random stops should be allowed if they are not giving everyone a receipt. As others say, a good reason only should be the rule now. When I was working in the Supermarkets it was that way, I wonder when/why it changed.  :hmm: I always get a receipt and now I'm glad I do. I'll ask in Asda tomorrow when I go for a few things and see what their excuse is.  :nooo:

Has anyone tried the SmartShop scan and bag thinggy  ?  I tried it at Sainsburys but I was worried I'd put an item in the trolley without 'pinging' it   I didn't, but I could have.

Imagine the headlines "Pensioner Arrested in Self Shop Scan Scam "  try saying that headline after a couple of voddies ......

I've used that system in Tesco. It saves time and you end up with nicely packed bags.

We were in Asda last week (I rarely go to Asda after the fiasco of being stopped but wanted their Shades loos rolls). There were the normal DIY tills plus three real checkouts, then there was half a dozen of the type of ones you are talking of Alex.  While we were all queueing for a real checkout, three members of staff were standing around these Scan Scam things doing nothing, only one young woman walked through with a phonelike thingey in all the time we were waiting.

I know the supermarkets want us all to checkout our shopping ourselves to save the wages of checkout staff, but a hell of a lot of people want to be treated like a proper customer and have our shopping checked out by a member of staff, the three staff wasting time standing around could have manned the tills.  Supermarkets are forcing us to use these cursed machines, I have had enough mistakes made in pricing on a normal checkout, would get in a right old muddle on a Scan Scam thingy.

Now are you taking one or shall I answer. Soddit I'll answer..

At a traditional checkout with a queue of many waiting on you to clear the area there is a moral obligation not to take all day packing your bags.

When you go round the store picking stuff off the shelves, scanning it and putting it into your bags in the trolly there is plenty of time to make sure you don't pile a load of tin cans on top of your loaf of bread etc. etc. Then you shove your trolley to a usually vacant machine where you signal end of trip, upload the purchase details and pay. The store staff there are to certify you are over 18 if buying plonk and remove the tags from anything with them. In the couple of minutes it takes to go through you can look smugly at all the silly buggers who prefer personal service waiting in the queues to get some. They'll probably still be there as you drive out of the car park.

:smug:

Lidl don't do it as they assume all their customers are on the rob. Tesco can afford to as with their prices it doesn't matter if half are.

I was amazed once in Aldi as they were selling full sized sledge hammers. Now I could be wrong but if most needed a sledge hammer I don't think they'd  beheading for Aldi as their first port of call. This suggests that they are bought as an impulse purchase. That I've seen them more than once suggests that they do succeed in flogging them. My mind most certainly boggles.
