Post by: klondike on November 07, 2022, 10:19:44 AM
Email from Octopus...

Your Direct Debit payment is due soon: £67.00 less than usual
Hello Mark,

Just a quick reminder: we'll collect your monthly Direct Debit payment of £138.13 on 14th November.

It can take up to four working days for a Direct Debit payment to clear and appear on your online account balance.

From October, you'll receive £66 credit, rising to £67 from December, until March as part of the Government's Energy Bill Support Scheme.

Making changes to your payment
If you want to cancel or change the date of this month's payment, you can change your payment here. Please let us know as soon as you can.

Love and power,
The Octopus Energy team
P.S.
Here are some ways we can help if you're struggling with your bills at the moment

So I'll be paying £138 and last year it was £82. Either there is a new definiition of usual or they have recruited Dianne bloody Abbot  :nooo:

We changed our payment, still pay monthly but only for what's used. Dunc refuses to line their bank account with our money building up into credit.  :boo:

I prefer a regular payment. The predicted winter ones look eye watering.

You could always use their estimate and put the monthly excess into a savings account although for what they pay you may as well put it into a biscuit tin.

I'm currently over £500 in credit

As I have mentioned before, I am trying to reduce my usage of electricity and am comparing my current usage with what I used in the corresponding weeks of 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. I have been doing this now for six weeks, and my average usage over those six weeks is 62% of the earlier average. What I don't know of course, is how I will get on when the cold weather arrives - so far this autumn/winter we have only had a few hours below freezing Thursday night/Friday morning of last week.

Can't you close off part of the house?   Unfortunately I can't. All I can do is avoid a couple of bedrooms and turn the rads off in them.

not really - all the rooms either interconnect or open of the hall. Closing rooms creates more problems than it solves.

Probably true.

yes o the worry is closed off rooms becoming damp - autumns and winters here are pretty wet - from October to February we average around 20 days a month with rain - the worst month we have had since coming up here was December 2015 when rain fell on 30 of the 31 days, and in the 19 years since we moved here only 2021 had rain on fewer that one day in two - it rained on 179 days
I'm not complaining - just stating facts - and I wouldn't swap here for anywhere else that I have lived in my 85 years

That e-mail confuses me but then I could never add up to save my life.  I was the maths class dunce, but give me a French verb to conjugate and I was away  I've added that so you know I not a total retard, I wasn't doing a Big Louis/Trebor  :yay:
SO you've got £138 going out of your account and £67 coming in to your account, you've actually got £71 going out  :hmm:   can someone explain to me please  :busted:

It just means that they are getting £138 from me plus £67 from the taxpayer so my account gets credited with £205. They are suggesting that the £138 I will be paying them is somehow less than usual. I have never paid as much as that in the past.

just checked still no £500 winter fuel payment

I still don't get that.  The £67 taxpayer money is paid into your current account yes? not direct to Octopus.

Mine hasn't changed because I'm on a fixed rate until I think it's February

No I don't get it - it gets credited to my Octopus energy account.

You are lucky to still be on a fix. My fix supplier Avro went bust and I was transferred to Octopus on a variable tariff. By then there was nobody offering fixes at any sensible price or maybe at all.

ooooh my £66 went into my current account - I think, I'll have to check now. :hmm:

I think they go to the energy company. You should be able to just get it back if you choose.

I've just checked on HSBC it shows £66 was paid in by Scottish Power in October and another £66 is pending, due in on 8 November

Ah so they get it but pay it to you then. I'd have expected the buggers to hang on to it so good for them.

We've done the same, changed to a variable DD.  :upvote:

In October our bill was £99.35 - £66 Energy Grant = £33.35, which was taken off our accrued credit of £334.15 so no money came out of our bank account.

No money coming out of our bank account will continue until our credit balance is zero, which should see us through until March / April time.

Shell Energy are knocking it off our bill, but I thought the first payment was £67 followed by five at £66, so they owe me a quid.

After April I reckon a lot of people will rue the day that Liz Truss got kicked out of office.
