Title: the world , different times, different places,
Post by: alfred on January 11, 2022, 12:48:30 PM
Whenever iv been  researching on ancestry, it seems then as in the past of many families  then having many children some as many as ten children or more, some as much as fifteen , and rarer still some well beyond fifteen , today of course i think its more likely to average out to about three,

as then in the past families lived close to each other possibly streets away where as now they live virtually all over the world.

telegrams and letters and those lucky to have a phone then was the norm
where as today its e.mails  or  text. even skype, and other appliances for  people to see, were a person could take a bag full of washing and wait for it to be washed and even dried  before taking it back home,
today we have washing machines and tumble driers,

and with all these modern changes and adjustments to our way of living
populations of people are expanding all over the world as now millions, have for some countries  even changed over to billions , (ie)  India or china, for example,

so the world is getting smaller as populations being born need more space
so food will be a fast priority and i assume more people will switch over to becoming vegetarians,

Q; what views or thoughts do you have in the way it was, and is now,
as usual your posts will make interesting reading.

Trouble  with this globalism  they all seem to want to come to us, Europe, USA  Australia, where the hard work has already been done,  instead of sorting out their own countries.

Even my family has moved to a different part of the country now.  My husband and I were born three miles apart, similar backgrounds, my parents and grandparents  whole family the same, it worked.  We now have a  "foreigner" son in law  from Manchester (we love him really) and live 200 miles from our original home which we couldn't return to if we wanted, don't recognise the old place nor speak the language.    Progress? not the way I see it.

As John Cleese said " Mass immigration has turned London into a city that is no longer English "

People have always moved to survive and a better life, people arrived on what is now the UK as the ice age retreated Northwards those who are crossing the Channel from the Continent by any means possible are doing so as their own Governments have failed them.

Or to escape being persecuted for one reason or another just as the Pilgrims who fled England on the Mayflower, today some are fleeing famine and civil war again down to their own Governments and those who want to gain power,

I left my home town to find work moved 250 miles south to London, my wife who I met in London moved from the west coast of Ireland for the same reason as did most of her brothers and sisters , only two of them have returned to Ireland.

I don't have a problem with Immigration as such but structured immigration of only skilled workers that we need, a similar system to Australia what I was dead against was the Freedom of movement from the EU it put massive strain on our infrastructure NHS Housing etc.

As Casandra pointed out how do we identify with any degree of accuracy the true identity and nationality of those who enter the UK mainly England unlawfully to claim Asylum, like it or not we have to abide by our own legislation and international law , there is no easy answer

My family moved to Australia..  As did many people .. We didn't live off the state and had to prove that we had work to go to.. Nothing was handed to us on a plate..

The UK seems to have two bands of followers. Those who risk life and limb to come here, hopefully to settle down, and those who see us as the 'enemy' and try to blow us up.

That is so true..
But trying to distinguish the two can be impossible...

The problem is often we don't know which is which until its too late, and some of them that have committed acts of terror here were born here and turned on us

Then there are those who just hate us - and the west.  They don't try to blow us up, but spread their hatred.
