Oh come on Alex, you can't support people like Trump or Boris. Trump is in court for corruption and racketeering, his whole family are under investigation and Boris has been fired or resigned from every job he's had. These people are figures of fun, misfits, and could only come to power in already stupefied societies.

It is odd how Trump's indictments seem to arrive just after more evidence of the Biden crime family gets exposed though..

Being in Trumps cabinet was an almost guarantee of ending up in court. The problem was that as a sitting president he couldn't be indicted, which is probably why he's so eager to get elected again so he can sort it all out from within, so to speak. It's not just Trump, his whole family are under investigation. Trump is a one man crime syndicate.

Biden will go the same way if he lives long enough and his son is also in hot water for his wheeling and dealing in the Ukraine. It's America, it's to be expected.

But ours is a stupefied society.
I'd love for Trump to stand for our PM.
Of course he isn't British, but he does own a golf course in Scotland.

Quote from: Weapons Grade on September 08, 2023, 09:58:17 AMI'm not sure how many times a year you can go, but I think you have to spend half the year resident in Britain itself, don't quote me on that though.

This mass immigration doesn't exist outside the west. You can't just turn up somewhere and demand to stay and be clothed, fed and housed by the state. You'll be locked up in some mangy deportation center for a few months and deported. Let's be honest, if we didn't have a welfare state who would bother coming here? The vast majority coming into the UK now are not political asylum seekers, they're economic migrants.
Thanks again.

I reckon that no more than 1% are genuine asylum seekers, & as you say, they only come to Western countries because they know the other countries would give them the big fuck off.

I can't say I blame the immigrants. Many have come from third world countries and this is like heaven for them. It's the politicians who let them in. This is what happens when we put our trust in politicians. The same politicians that dragged us into the EU with treaties and broke the Brexit promises.

Now we're going to be flooded with Ukrainians and they will be our next gig economy minimum wage labour force. Most of the jobs for low skilled workers in the big companies in my area are dependent on minimum wage immigrants.

What part of what I said is wrong, simply my opinion or that you disagree with?

True, we can't support Trump.
As for Boris, at one time I liked him, but he became very much like all the PMs we have had since Maggie: bumbling fools.

We now have a choice of more Conservatives, more Labour like Bliar, or stick our necks out and vote for a completely new right-wing party.

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't remember reading anything from you regarding who you would vote for.
Why not tell us?

This is about the nearest I can get to what Boris actually is.

It wasn't a secret, anyone who bothered to find out what Boris was shouldn't have been surprised at another resignation as PM.

I'm not keen on either extreme of ''right wing'' or ''left wing.'' I'd rather have a party that has ideas and is prepared to stick to them. Not a woke party v a corrupt one.

I've said elsewhere on here I wouldn't vote for any of them, including 'Reform' which is simply a repeat of the Brexit promises. We all know nothing will change, so why bother playing along and pretending we're voting for anything but promises that we already know won't be kept.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what would happen if the whole country refused to vote.

That would be a wonderful idea.

At least my local Reform candidate would win, as he'd have my vote.

As the only candidate anyone has voted for, he'd logically become a prime minister all on his own.
No opposition to argue with him; no untrustworthy colleagues to do the dirty on him.
I suppose he'd have to work very hard in supervising all the civil service departments, but without any opposition he'd be able to pass any law he wants to.

I prefer explanations to soundbites and haven't yet swopped reality for beliefs. Sometimes that doesn't go down well with the faithful, but here's my take on it. It's not going to get better, it's going to get a lot worse. It will get better when a million people come out into the streets and force whichever government is in charge into action.

Once upon a time we had people like Thatcher, or Benn. Strong minded people with ideas whether you agreed with them or not. Socialism v laissez-faire capitalism.

Now long gone and replaced by Rishi (under investigation and not for the first time) who as Chancellor under Boris is largely responsible for the present mess we're in. A bland mediocre character who gets beaten up every time he opens his mouth! Still, better than Truss who was so incompetent the Bank of England had to step in and she fortunately lasted less than two months.

Rishi's five promises.
"I fully expect you to hold my government and I to account on delivering those goals" – Sunak, January 4, 2023.
1.Halve inflation.
2.Grow the economy.
3.Reduce debt.
4.Cut [NHS] waiting lists.
5.Stop the boats.

Every promise a porky and the chances of it happening?

And Labour. One look at their five point mission statement makes you want to cover your ears and try to escape the rabbit hole you've fallen into.
1.Sustain the highest growth rate in G7.
2.Make Britain a clean energy superpower.
3.Build an NHS fit for the furture.
4.Make Britains streets safe.
5.Break down barriers to opportunity.

And how will all this be achieved? Well, they don't actually say, it's another one of those 'honestly, we wouldn't lie to you' promises.

The Reform Party.
''Let's make Britain great'' echoing Trump's ''Make America great again.'' Not even original.
Take Nigel and Boris' Brexit promises, recycle them and pretend you've just thought of it.
1.Lower taxes.
2.Secure borders.
3.Cheaper energy.
4.Zero [NHS] waiting lists.

Where have I heard all that before (stifles a yawn). Oh yes, same as the other two mainstream parties. If the Reform Party ever took off it would be quickly taken over by the present narcissistic and corrupt lot we have running the country now. Just as Brexit was, that's guaranteed.

It's why I refuse to vote for any of this. Cromwell had the right idea.

''Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter'd your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?

Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil'd this sacred place, and turn'd the Lord's temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress'd, are yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. In the name of God, go!''  britpolitics.co.uk, Oliver Cromwell – April 20, 1653.
