Lesser of two weevils imho.
I don't think so, that woman will be a disaster. She chopped and changed the mind all the way through the contest. I don't trust her one inch.
It's a woman's prerogative, Raven.
Anything/one is better then the alternative...
Let us hope that we shall not all feel thoroughly let down in a few weeks' time, and we shall have a reasonable conservative government again.
Which would be the first since 1963.

NOT, according to my partner. 😂 😂 😂
My letter congratulating her and requesting she gets her finger out and halts the dinghy invasion will be in tonight's post as you suggested Ashy. Perhaps if enough do the same she won't be able to get in the door though. Such a quandary.
My letter is ready to go, I just need a stamp
Perhaps Truss has hidden abilities?
It seems unlikely though, and IMO, she will be chewed up and spat out within months. :nooo:
Before I decide to call her a 'disaster' or anything else ! I'm going to wait and see just how she fares, I'm not Mystic Meg after all.

Me too. It's difficult to know how to reply to somebody with no sense of humour at all. I think I'll solve the problem by not bothering.
The difference between a pessimist and an optimist is the pessimist sees a glass half empty, and the optimist is having one delivered by Hermes.

I do have a sense of humour, a good one I'm told ! you just don't understand it.
You know what they say, honey is in the eye of the bee holder.
I find Liz Truss to be a bit wooden.. She doesn't do speeches very well.. Her praise of Boris went down like a lead balloon. and the pause between end of speech and applause was embarrassing..
Yet her walk is brilliant.. such confidence..
Quote from: Scrumpy on September 06, 2022, 08:04:57 AMHer praise of Boris went down like a lead balloon. and the pause between end of speech and applause was embarrassing.
Well of course it played out like that, the MPs who went to such lengths to get rid of Boris were never going to cheer enthusiastically.
However, that doesn't detract from the fact she spoke the truth about his achievements.
I agree.. Whether or not you like the man.. he was the best man for the job..
Bad points
Pro immigration - ignoring the illegals there are about a million legals each year with maybe 1/3 million leaving.
Fanatical on Net Zero
Inability to tell the truth
Probably still the best of a terrible bunch though with an even worse bunch waiting in the wings for the next election.
We are in for a rough ride.

At a time when Lizz Truss should be already sat at her desk in Number 10, we are being treated to the utterly ridiculous farce of her having to waste a complete day travelling to Balmoral to be appointed by Lizzie Windsor.
Time this stupid practice was stopped.
The party took 2 months to elect her so I doubt a day will make much difference but I agree the rigmarole is a bit farcicle.

Sunak should have stepped down at least a month ago as he never stood a chance of winning.
I read that Truss is likely to put a £2,000 cap on energy prices, the cost of which could take 20 years to be recovered by taxation or higher energy bills when the wholesale gas price drops back down.
I want to pay whatever our energy bill is at any point in time & not be paying towards other people's energy bills for 20 years.
It was closer than I expected. He must have had more relatives than I thought
I wonder if he is still smiling...

Lol. I was going to say that he miscalculated the number of new overseas Tory Party members that he needed to buy.
Some members of the press are already having a go at her and she hasn't even moved in to Number 10 yet ! I hope she's given some time, what an in tray to face

His in-laws won't be now he's no longer in power.
It could all be an elaborate scheme to blame someone else when we see the scale of the mess to be cleared up. That would make a birthday cake a good investment.
I bet the chap who paid for the gold wallpaper is upset.
I bet Liz will be too when she sees it...
They'll have steamed it off by now, just bare plaster now.
She did well at her first PMQ's, she made Labour, & especially the SNP, look the idiots that they are.
She demolished Starmer & Blackford.
PMQs doesn't pay my tax or my gas bill, but it is a start.
I thought she did ok myself. :upvote:
What I don't understand is why we're not making the energy companies, who have posted billions of £s in profits, pay for most of the increases. Can anyone give an idiots guide type explanation ?
I feel better about her now after watching PM Question Time. I thought she did well and was well prepared.

Because Liz Truss will give the go-ahead for the North Sea oil & gas drillers to start increasing their operations & the profits will enable them to do it quickly.
The resulting extra energy will make the UK independent of imported gas & will reduce gas prices & will bring in more continuing income than a one-off windfall tax would.

Cheers Phil, but are these companies obliged to use their profits on the north sea sites ? what's to stop them saying 'stuff that, not enough gas left' ?

She was well prepared & gave concise answers, didn't play to the audience & didn't try to be clever.
Both Starmer & Blackford thought they had her on the ropes when they asked if she intended to impose a windfall tax & they assumed she'd waffle & dodge the question, so they could keep asking over & over, but she silenced them with a straight seven-word answer "no, I won't impose a windfall tax" & proceeded to tell them why.

The gas companies do what will make them a profit & there are untapped gas reserves in the North Sea which the green idiots managed to stop them accessing.
Liz Truss will give them the green light to start drilling, which they'll do as quickly as they can.
Because time's money.
If the answer is more tax, then it was the wrong question.
Not if the question was "What is the best way to horlix any chance of avoiding a recession?"
:upvote: Agreed 100%
