For some reason people think of the Spanish as friendly and easy going .
Especially Brits who live in Spain who live in enclaves of Brits and have a poor understanding of the language
I am a Spanish speaker and I spend half the year in Spain .
Many Spanish are aloof and cold their attitude to animals is strange .
Many love their pets especially dogs and horses .
However the dog homes are nearly all founded and run by foreign volunteers .
There are 500 dogs in the one nearest me and that is just one home .
There are several sanctuaries for horses and donkeys again run by foreigners the beautiful Iberian horse so often comes to a sad end .
The atrocities of the bull ring and bull running are evidence that the inbred cruelty of a nations traditions are still strong in Spain .

A had a friend who lived in Spain for many years and he told me how cruel the Spanish are to animals.  He found one dog dumped out in the wild with his legs tied, so he couldn't even walk to find water.  He told many stories, but that one sticks in my mind.  The use of spikes, electric shock collars or tying animals to moving motor vehicles was only banned last year !
