Excellent news for those who get Pension Credit, I'll be helping to pay your energy bills.

"The chancellor has confirmed the government is considering a social tariff  which experts have said could knock at least £1,000 per year off bills for some households.

A social tariff would fix energy bills at a certain level for those on low incomes, protecting them from volatile energy markets.

This would be paid for via taxation or higher bills for other customers."

The Government is ' considering '    It won't affect me as I'm not entitled to Pension Credit, but my friend gets it and her state pension is a lot more than mine !   I've got a works pension which makes me about £30 a week TOO WELL OFF.  :boo:

It'll affect you when you when you start paying the surcharge on your own energy bills.

What most people don't realise is that water bills already include a surcharge to pay for low-income users.

It was really only worth contributing to extra pensions if they pay out a significantly higher amount than pension credit for older pensioners.  :boo:

Those getting the new state pension, (from 2016) are in a much better position, ie they're paid at more or less PC level without means testing.  Grossly unfair.  IMO.
