Over the course of about four years, TSB reduced the opening days of our local branch from five days to one, then finally closed it totally last year (might have been early this year, I forget and can't be bothered to check). What sets my teeth on edge is the notice on the closed front door which states, with breath-taking effrontery - 'We are here to help you'!

If they give you  the finger you can always return the gesture by moving on. Not that any banks are maintaining branches these days.

Banks, don't get me started!!!!!    Barclays are definitely not here to help you. They closed all of the local branches I now have a 30 mile round trip to access my bank.  It's all self service machines in the branch, with staff standing there "to help you", why can't they just get behind the counter like they used to?

Recently my son needed some emergency money, I went onto online banking to transfer some to him, the site was down, I tried to phone telephone banking, after 3/4 hour wait I gave up, couldn't transfer it until the evening.

I wanted to sign up to Blue Rewards, went to the bank, she told me I could only do it online, I said I didn't know how, "if you bring your device into the bank we can show you how to do it, have you got the app?" I said I wouldn't know what an app was if it bit me on the nose and asked her how I could bring my computer to the bank and set it up so you can show me? she laughed.

No help for us oldies at at all, 50 + years I have been with Barclays.  I wouldn't have a bank at all if I wasn't forced into it.  I preferred the old days when you got real money on a Friday and went to pay your bill's over the counter, my mum had a pension payment book she would go into the post office and cash and I don't want to be forced to do direct debits. :boo:

my main account is with Lloyd's. Thanks to the bloody EU all Scottish Lloyd's banks closed and became TSB. As a result, my nearest branch of Lloyd's is in Carlisle, a round trip of 326 miles. Thanks a lot!

I do most of my bills and DDs on line, but I drove past my HSBC bank the other week and it was gone ! shut ! signs down !  Now I have to go to Chester or Bromborough, I guess it's the same all over the UK.
