Post by: alfred on January 28, 2022, 08:31:21 AM
Back in the past i seem to remember seeing people  growing beautiful, flowers and the heavenly scents they gave off was wonderful ,
today we see many varieties of flowers but sadly they have little scent on them.

what is the cause where by flowers seem to have little scent and what if possible are the root causes. does any forum member know what has happened to these beautiful  floral delights

I don't know but suspect it may be when they breed new fashionable varieties scent is low on their list of priorities. Cerainly so for roses as there are always new varieties which often have little in the way of scent.

If you think most of the highly scented flowers are the old Victorian varieties. If you then consider what they used for transport it may offer a clue why such fragrant flowers were prized

Today it does seem that visual is more important than perfume when it comes to flowers.  I love yellow roses but there is never any perfume from them - or maybe it's me losing the sense of smell as I get older  ?

The weeds start showing earlier every year. It's climate change. I've seen blue tits exploring a nest box already although in fairness they may have been looking for insects.
