I do enjoy a bacon butty or bacon and egg for breakfast.  I bought some thick sliced bacon in the week from a supermarket and although it tasted good, there was so much water that I had to 'mop up' with kitchen paper whilst cooking it.  I assume it's water, awful white stuff !  Would bacon from the butcher's shop be any better d'ya think ?

Yep water and fat.

I expect that a butcher's bacon would be better but it's an extra shop and will doubtless cost more. I do bacon in a hot air fryer -  a Ninja Foodi - and don't get that problem but I expect a high % of my cash went on water too.

Dry cure bacon is usually better.

I am going to get some stick for this I know, but I have the Quarn veggie bacon

I too prefer dry cure... It probably is better from the butcher.. I think the packaging can sometimes spoil the contents..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

Makes items like Frozen chicken breasts and of course Bacon appear much bigger and better value. Also it helps big Grocer's profits when you buy weighted items pumped full of water ...

I try to avoid frozen meats..
I'm sure the local butchers display meats that have previously been frozen.. I like to see the bacon slice being used..

I haven't seen a bacon slice used since I was a teenager

They even have them on deli counters in supermarkets. I have a small electric one for cutting up slices of cooked meat off a joint ready to freeeze.

Old fashioned butchers near here uses one. We like their short back cut quite thick. I could eat a bacon sandwich now!
Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

My butcher uses a bacon slicer..  He picks up a joint of meat and off he goes.. !!
I am not too happy when it comes to the last slices on the shrinking joint.. I like the plump middle bit..
