Have you,   or did you used to have,  any favourite film stars?

There used to some good ones years ago,  but I have no idea of the current ones as everything they put on telly is a repeat.

1. I used to like Richard Gere, (so handsome in Pretty Woman).
2. I loved Robert Redford in The Horse Whisperer.
3. Sean Connery was a handsome young man, (lovely dark eyes).
4. Clint Eastwood.
5. I also liked some  Liam Neeson films,  and Tom Hanks was good too.

However,  I won't watch  anything with Arnold Schwarzenegger,  Sylvester Stallone,  Jack Nicholson or that awful Johnny Depp in them.

I don't even know who the current film stars are,  because I never see any new films on the telly nowadays, they are all  repeats.

I agree with your. choices and would add,

Morgan Freeman, Denzil Washington, Jack Nicholson. Anthony Hopkins, Michael Cain, Dustin Hoffman, Martin Sheen, Jonathan Voight, Elliot Gould, Goldie Hawn, Meryl Streep, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Maggie Smith,
Jodie Foster, Helen Mirren, Susan Sarandon, Glenn Close, all in their 70's and 80's. Apart from Heath Ledger, who died tragically prematurely, I really have not been impressed with younger actors, but thats a natural predisposition I guess at my age ...

Your last comment is how I feel too, Cass.
I agree about Maggie Smith, too.  Excellent actress.

From today's stars I'd choose Tom Hardy, a good actor, good looking and an animal welfare campaigner. :upvote:

Never seen any of his films J, I've heard of 'Peaky Blinders' but never watched the film or TV series  ...

A coincidence, but I've always rated Rhys Ifans who played Peter Cook so well in 'Not only, but also', featured in 2 of Tom Hardy's Films as well. Ifans was nominated for a BAFTA for his role as Pete - brilliant.

I also used to like Tom Sellick,  although I feel they have over-played the 'Jesse James'  character now.

Some lovely suggestions made, and it is true when you hear it said -  "Ah,   they don't make 'em like that any more."

In the UK I used to watch (and still do) TalkingPictures. Over here we have many 'old picture' channels like that for watching or downloading freely 24/7 and they are very popular.

I'm watching Archie at the moment.  A bio of Cary Grant, who had a lousy childhood and completely reinvented himself in the USA.

I like lots of the actors/actresses above, I'd add Montgomery Clift. Loved him in From Here to Eternity.

Also 'Red River' so young, so mature I thought, yes he was very good I agree. My mother's favourite ('such a sensitive face'), so I know a bit about him. Highly intelligent, speaking French, German and Italian fluently. Following a car crash in which Elizabeth Taylor saved his life by removing two smashed teeth from his throat that were choking him, he underwent many facial operations but could only ever after be filmed from one side of his profile, being facially paralysed on the other.

He lived a tragically short life (45). A decent man, who gave up his salary for 'Judgement at Neuremburg' for the victims of the holocaust, he was so moved by what he'd seen.

I agree re his 'sensitive face'.  Your mother had good taste!

We certainly had some phenomenal acting talent between 1945 and 1980. If I name one or two it doesn't mean I didn't appreciate the others. Richard Todd, Kenneth More, Sam Kydd....
