The biggest problem though would be other cars driven by people. They wouldn't be under control of the system that kept traffic flowing and crashing with anything.

That wouldn't work either, though.

If I wanted to go to M & S for example,  what use would it be for the 'taxi'   if stopped a mile away from the shops on some railway track?    Then I would need to find another taxi to get me to the shops  -  unless there was a driverless bus route nearby.

Nah,  its like these electric cars nowadays,  the mad scientists don't think things through, they are only interested on churning out the product to get some dosh in the pot.

I fear the answer is probably not.

One thing that gives the game away with vegetarians is veggie sausages and burgers. If they don't want meat why do they want something that is a poor imitation of meat?

Good point. :upvote:

If this man-made stuff did eventually catch-on in a big way because of those who don't like slaughtering animals,  then these very people could ultimately be the cause of millions of farm animals being mass slaughtered as they will no longer be needed or viable.

There would probably just be a few kept in unnatural conditions in laboratories, purely to experiment on.

I believe they are also working on lab-grown milk as well!

One day in the distant future,  we could eventually be born without our reproductive organs, as they will become disfunctional.  We will put our order in with Ocado and order the chosen baby, ready made.

Quote from: klondike on Today at 12:41:27 PMComputers and sensors are getting ever smarter. Trains could be entirely computer controlled now.

Planes eventually - cruise missiles have no pilots but I suppose they aren't required to land safely. There won't be anybody at a control board miles away either. When computers take planes over it will be pretty much just them in control of the entire flight. All humans will be involved with is selecting when and where to.

The problem with cars is being able to cope with interactions with humans who are often unpredictable.
If people were kept out of vehicles and unable to wander or stagger across vehicle routes then autonomous vehicles would probably be possible with current technology.

You mean like kids dashing out into the road after a ball,  or dogs loose, or even just people trying to cross over?     Well I don't see how they could ever stop people walking on pavements and wanting to cross the road.

Ah well,  let's hope all this super technology doesn't happen in my  life time, because I'd never cope. :hmm:

The Chat Room / Laboratory grown meat

They were talking about this again on telly a night or two ago, and showing how they use animal cells to grow it.

Maybe I am a hypocrite, because although I don't like the idea of killing animals for our consumption - especially with the nightmare reports I have seen of some slaughter houses -  but when I see some sausages or pork chops etc,  they don't look like an animal, so I eat it.
If I saw the whole carcass with its head on, and face,  it would upset me and I couldn't cut into it for all the tea in China.
I also can never eat any of the internal organs, not for love nor money.  No liver, kidney,  anything like that.

Anyway,  how do you feel about this Lab meat they are experimenting with?
Do you think you would buy it?

I think it pretty much is with new builds apart from with small houses where there just wouldn't be room. I had a fairly modest bungalow and even that had two. A family bathroom and an ensuite toilet and shower.

After I inherited this house from my parents and modernised it I had a downstairs toilet and shower put in. My parents had had a stair lift which I certainly didn't want to keep. If you had an urgent call and used it you'd have been too late.

Quote from: GrannyMac on Today at 07:07:30 AMWe had a lovely detached bungalow, but due to OH's health, our income was severely impacted, so we bought this house twenty years ago to be mortgage free.  It would take a stairlift, there's no room for a downstairs loo unfortunately.

When you think about it,  its daft why the majority of  houses were always built with one toilet upstairs, isn't it.   Did they think we only wanted a wee after bedtime?

I think it should be the norm to have one upstairs and a smaller one downstairs too.

Surely many families have elderley relatives and friends visiting sometimes who couldn't manage stairs?
Or what about tradesmen/workmen doing jobs for you.   Do we want them traipsing all the way upstairs in their work boots to use the loo?

No,  two loo's in houses should be the norm nowadays.
