Title: Shopping Recommendations ?
Post by: Alex on March 26, 2023, 12:21:11 PM
I do my shopping in Aldi usually but I was at Cheshire Oaks Friday (was it Friday ?  :hmm: ) I popped into M & S and wandered into the food hall.  Their grub looks so nice, but is more expensive than other supermarkets.

I love beetroot and can eat it on its own so I bought a box from their chiller.  It's 'British Cocktail Sweet Chilli Beetroot'  it's lovely, sweetish but not too much and tangy.

Have you found anything new or tasty on your shopping trips ?

Given the price rises in Lidl I'm going to give Aldi a look (once I've spent the £2 off coupon from their loyalty card). Aldi used to be first port of call but lost out when Lidl opened nearer and with a better car park.

I often buy tea bags, coffee, and cleaning stuff in Home Bargains or B&M. They are both local to us, and have some good offers. I prefer the greengrocer for veg, but its dearer than any supermarket.  Similarly we like butcher's bacon, sausage and meat, but its more expensive too.   Lidl is still my regular go to.

Brussels sprout ketchup is good.

We shop in Aldi sometimes and it is very cheap but sometimes a bit disappointing.  For instance the mushroom pate isn't very nice but the white chocolate is lovely.

I'm not really sure that it is that much more expensive than other shops, especially in some stuff anyway.  Mind you, since our daughter works in one and we get a discount, it deffo works out cheaper in a fair few more things too.

My wife and I have been regular Waitrose customers for many years but have grown tired of their falling standards. We were very surprised at the quality of Lidl and Aldi. Then we discovered Costco. I was attracted by the £1.56 per litre of diesel and the Cloudy Bay Sav Blanc at £16 , my favourite tipple and the only white wine I spend more than £10 per bottle. The biggest surprise was the high quality of the fruit and vegetables.

Costco rotisserie chicken is very tasty, reasonable price too.
