Knutsford seems to be of a similar ilk.

JBR, I don't recall ever seeing a non-white person til the late 60s in Dundee.  I remember it was when an Asian family took over a local shop.   Moved to Doncaster a few years later, and at first we lived in a cheap area, our neighbours included Indians, West Indians and Pakistanis.  The area now is full of Eastern Europeans.  Then we bought a house in a pit village, exclusively white!

We moved to a suburb where there were other incomers, and good schools.  There were a few Asian families, one who'd made lots of money on the markets, and others who worked at the hospital.  Their kids were bright!

Good old Alexa, I've spend a couple of hours listening to Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Rogers & Hammerstein songs.  In the 60s we had some great music and some will never be forgotten, but there was something special about these old songs.

Quote from: dextrous63 on Today at 06:59:33 PMWhat about if we make it a legal obligation for pedestrians to wear inflatable smimming rings around their waists and heads?  Sort of personalised buoys?
No, I disagree.
It would serve them better if they continued to walk into each other, hopefully banging their heads together and knocking a bit of sense into themselves.

The pub was packed on Saturday night
Ethel and Maggie pole dancing, what a sight
The pole was greased with thick beef dripping
It stank something horrid, and the pair kept slipping
Their green wooly drawers gave everyone a fright !

Reverend Brown was new to the church

Quite.  Plus, of course, life expectancy has risen which has created its own problems.

What was the UK population in 1947 when NHS was born, 40 million  ?   Now we don't exactly know how many people the NHS is trying to cope with.

I see that the Miriam Webster online dictionary states that

QuoteThe meaning of AYATOLLAH is a .... leader among Shiite Muslims

With that in mind, perhaps we ought to rename the position of PM as Ayatollah since their job seems to lead shite politicians.😬
