You don't need a credit card to shop 'digitally'.

I have no credit cards. I use a debit card - no problem.

Sure - I would still rather have my shopping scanned and bagged by a real person. That doesn't stop me paying by card.

The more they try to push this the more I resist, I am the sort of person who won't cave in to their demands even if it inconveniences me.  After hearing that I am going back to taking out my housekeeping in cash and if they don't like it tough they lose my custom.

I don't have a credit card.. Debit card for me..
I don't use cash.. but those I have been with that do have no problems when at the checkout..
I avoid self service tills because They are replacing a check cashier..
While standing in a queue I have been approached by staff to use the alternative checkout.. I tell them 'No'.. They presume it is because I don't know how to use them and offer to show me..

Credit card only for me as it has substantially more protection than a debit card.

My bank covered the few transactions that were made on my debit card when it had been cloned ..

It may well have done but it's at the bank's discretion in many cases.

With a credit card it's a legal requirement.

I currently use a debit card because for the first year it pays 1% cashback on spending. When the year is up I'll revert to my credit card which pays cashback too but less. I have left some regular payments on it. When I find anywhere giving a discount for cash I'll use that. I carry some cash but it came out of a hole in the wall before lockdown because I just don't use it anymore.

Good for you, I won't use those cursed self service tills either, I will queue.  I tell all the staff if we all do this you will have no job, they are probably not allowed to agree with you although one lady did.
