Hasting have increased my car insurance by £100,  they can take it off again or they will find I am moving on.

I check alternatives every renewal. Worth giving them a ring. Some will match alternate quotes. I think once your yearometer clicks past 80 the price starts to increase. I imagine I'll have hung up my keys by then as I do very low mileage now anyway.

I am 82 and just had a quote of £326 a saving of £170. My mileage is less than 5000 a year which I use going to the golf course. Will be phoning my insurance company and if I can get a much better quote I will stay with them.

Mine is around £148 fully comp, I can't remember who I'm with now

All I know is, you are far younger than me Alex    plus 80 years and you are in the high risk group.

I've found my renewal from the RAC it's £155, the Go Compare site quotes £148 but it's not worth changing for £7    so Ill stick with the RAC :upvote:

I'm thinking of ditching the car that I love.. Combination of things are convincing me that perhaps I don't need it any more.. It's a difficult decision after 50-odd years of it's convenience..

It's just comforting that it's on the driveway, even if you don't drive it.   I can imagine it will be a hard decision Zoon.

The only thing that puts me off is knowing that once it has gone there won't be another. Ever. My mileage is trivial. My daughter had some car problems and borrowed it for several days. I think it was Monday she brought it back, It hasn't moved since. No need.

Yes.. I spend so much time indoors these days that the battery often needs recharging. Had a nice sunny day recently which prompted me to get my jeans on and go for a drive which I enjoyed muchly but I do fear a breakdown or a puncture which I'm no longer physically able to fix cos I never remember to take my little burner with me..

I used to forget then I found a sim that did some minimal number of minutes for £1 a month so put one in an old phone that lived in the glovebox. Then I noticed that they had put it up to £5 without telling me so I binned it. I've never been fond of PAYG having had one deactivated and credit lost because I hadn't used it. A non working phone is probably mentally worse than no phone.

zoony

But they only ask you to make a brief call every few years..Not so onerous I'da thought for the security of having it there.?

klondike

I think then you needed to use it every 90 days. Anyway I now have my phone in a case that includes my CC, licence, bus pass so I always have it with me when I'm out.

Over 80 and many insurers don't want to know. Insurance on my Mondeo is £720 - and that is after shopping around, having a clean licence, no accidents etc.

Oh, and one of the big pluses of car ownership is just going for a drive to get out of the empty house for an hour or even two, which I do several times a week
