Title: Huge Fire
Post by: Alex on March 19, 2022, 09:02:41 PM
A huge fire has broken out tonight at Parkgate, Wirral and it's turned the sky orange.  Firefighters have said it was started deliberately and is burning in a straight line, some homes have been evacuated.

Many nesting birds will have been killed and the marshes will have been very dangerous for the firefighters in the dark.  If there was any justice, the people who started this should be put in stocks in the wettest bit and left.  Parkgate is a pretty place with a fantastic ice cream parlour and fish and chip shop.

Sam went to many fires that were started by DANGEROUS people..
They have little regard for the lives of others.. Animals mean nothing to them..
Something amiss with their brains.. and they are not always  youngsters.
I'm very wary of people like that..
I do hope that the damage done can be quickly put right..

There were marsh harriers nesting there.

Many of these fires are started by bored teenagers. Probably little chance of catching them unless they are daft enough to boast about their exploits on social media.

The police are looking for a group of teenagers, 3 boys and a girl.  Parkgate is such a lovely place you can see over to north Wales from the front and as Sheila says, the ice cream is delicious.   So sad about all the birds and small animals lost here.

First comment...
This is heartbreaking. It took over 40 years to create that reedbed. People come from all over the UK to watch bird there.  Lost a huge area of SSSI and will impact local economy

Nature recovers from fires like this amazingly quickly. I've seen it happen. It's bad but not an unrecoverable disaster.

That is good to know..
Those kids .. those bloody kids need some sort of punishment.. Will they get it.!  NO..
They will be treated as 'delicate minds'...
Lets hope the parents dish it out..

There's a good chance the culprits are in that crowd watching. It's often what they do. Parkgate is lovely and luckily the reed bed will recover.
