Some bright spark on another forum has posted that although we buy our petrol in litres, we still tend to think in gallons.  The petrol companies will never show the gallon price as at the moment it's £8.22 a gallon !!!!  I think it was better when I didn't know

Frightening, isn't it? Did a quick some the other day - if petrol had risen in line with general inflation since I started driving a bit over 50 years ago, it would cost around £2.20 a gallon!

I mentioned this a little while back..
I remember when motorist were warned that petrol could rise to 1 pound a gallon..
Petrol was around 35 pence.. at the time...  I think it was September 1979..
Imagine the shock to motorist back then..!!
I don't know how that compares with wages back then..
I still think in gallons... I am surprised to know that it is 8.22 a gallon..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

It's like a lot of things.
Shortage - price goes up - simple economics.
Shortage resolved - price doesn't revert to what it was - simple greed.

Plus tax in the case of fuel of course.

Always enjoyed winding up Americans by saying how we got more miles to the gallon over here, even if we were driving the same car. And when asked why, I always said 'blame Queen Anne'.
