Title: saving money /buying ready made meals.
Post by: alfred on June 14, 2022, 08:19:26 AM
In the past you could not beat mothers home made meals , where as in todays modern world and with money being in short supply i assume ready made meals are a help and saves time and money in reheating prepared food rather than prepare food from the basics, and all the cooking involved,

as time goes on do you think younger generations will lose the ability to prepare and cook food for themselves ,or will they simply buy ready made meals stored away in a chest freezer , its noticeable that  many prepared meals are small and for some people  not filling enough leaving a person still hungry ,

Q what are your thoughts saving money and buying ready prepared meals,

For someone like me who hates cooking ready meals are handy, most of them do not compare to home cooking though and god knows what unhealthy stuff they contain.

I buy them sometimes for convenience.. Sometimes I can't be bothered to cook and freeze..
But there are some real crap ones out there.. and expensive is not always the best..
Charlie Bingham food looks good but a bit expensive..

I keep one or two ready meals in the freezer too, for when I can't be ***** cooking
My favourite is from Aldi believe it or not, Lasagne al forno.  They do it in small or family size, mine is £3 something, the large one is £4.29 they're in the chiller, but you can freeze them - if anyone fancies an Italian.... 😉

I seem to remember buying a lamb moussaka from Aldi and it was very nice.  I feel a trip to Aldi coming on.  I like lasagne too.

I am making a paella later and got the bits for a pasta salad for lunch tomorrow.

Make sure you get the one with the black sleeve Sheila and not the ordinary Lasagne, that's not so good.

I always cook for visitors, but for myself about 60:40 ready:home cooking - and the home cooking for one is dead simple - omelette or the like
