Title: DW
Post by: klondike on October 19, 2022, 11:55:42 PM
I sometimes listen to DW news or visit their website. I always assumed it would stand for Deutsche Welt or German World but I've just noticed that it is actually Deutsche Welle which translating is German Wave. Does anybody know if this is this some sort of colloquialism as it makes little sense to me unless it is maybe some reference to radio waves .

It's owned by the German Government you know     The word means 'wave' at the hairdressers   Funk Wellen are radio waves, so I guess you may be right about air waves.

Thanks. It was just curiosity. I knew they were a sort of German BBC.
