More heatwave hysteria

I forgot to put a thermometer outside, so I don't know what the temperature reached, but I have just had a stroll outside on a very pleasant, warm summer's early evening/late afternoon, with not a hint of danger to life and limb. OK, I know that I am lucky, and that some areas are experiencing unpleasant heat, but for pity's sake - a couple of days warmer than usual and the country comes to a shuddering halt? What the hell is going on? I understand some unions are trying to get it agreed that nobody should have to work at temperatures above 25C - what the HELL? Every year we get a few days that warm and further south it must be much more prevalent. Perhaps the dustmen, lorry drivers etc should work from home?

Tell me about it. I was to get a delivery of dog food, had to get it online as I can't get it here since the Pandemic for some reason.  :waiting: I was tracking it and it was due today, THEN, a short time ago I get an email saying due to the heat my stuff won't be delivered today. :wtf: Needless to say I'm fuming. :yell:

I recorded indoor temperatures of 30c this morning at 9am..
Charlwood, a Village near me, recorded the highest at 31c. At 9 am.

My granddaughter experienced driving over melting tarmac.. she said it was very strange.. She is in Lincolnshire..
Don't ask me.. I know nuffink..

I don't know accurate our car outdoor temperature gauge is but at 15:00 it was showing 43.5c.

RAF Coningsby at 40.3c.

I suppose all the official figures have to come from an official weather station but some places will have been considerably hotter.

There will be standardised housings. The temperatures are "in the shade" so the housing needs to meet that requirement to some specified degree. Car thermometers, thermometers hanging on a garden wall etc. including amateur grade weather stations such as my own will not meet the requirements.

Yes, exactly my point but, of course, the places where the standardised weather stations are located aren't necessarily the hottest, or coldest, places on any particular day.

I opened the window a few inches when I went to bed last night and there was a big bang in the middle of the night.  My glass of water had gone flying, box of tissues on the floor etc.  I mopped up, closed the window, got another glass of water and put my head on the pillow on top of my lip salve.

When I looked out of the window this morning, our neighbour's pots are all over the garden so it must have been a strong blast of wind.

I have a mesh wifi setup that has been working over a year with no issues. This morning I have had all manner of problems with it and have had to power cycle all of the units and the main router to get things going properly again. Temperature? I don't know for sure but am suspicious.

We had a darkness descend at around 8pm last evening.. I heard a couple of raindrops on the sun roof..  a rumble of thunder in the distance.. I thought.. this is it.. a storm to end all storms.
NOTHING..
The hottest night yet.. bloody horrible.. Good job we are not at war in this heat .. we would never cope....

We had a darkness descend around 9:30pm here. I blame climate change.
