Title: very hot weather rail travel,
Post by: alfred on July 15, 2022, 01:37:24 PM
Now we are going through one of the hottest summers on record i wonder if like the past where by rail way lines were distorted due to hot weather, now the weather is breaking all previous records i hope the rail way lines are still safe to travel on  as people commute up and down the  country ,

Q; how can rail way lines be able to stand extreme heat without buckling ,
have you any thoughts , apart from not travelling ??

We live in a mostly temperate climate. Other places are hotter. I've not heard of anywhere where it is too hot for railways so I'm guessing that those who are responsible for the track have this covered.

cheap and cheerful track. Used to have generous expansion joints using relatively short lengths of rail - then someone discovered how to lay track more cheaply.

Modern techniques use longer, heavier rails, minimise linear expansion and allow considerable expansion and creep. :spam:
