As were all going to feel the pinch due to rising fuel prices, could the chancellor have done more considering  all the money they had wasted on the new railway line now i believed cancelled and the billions spent , mainly on covid to which the surplus has luckily been sent to third world countries ,

also what money spent on illegal immigrants housing them in hotels at  very high prices, instead of returning them back to France .
so where else has this government squandered money, where it could have been spent and used to better such as now with the energy crisis,

Q; have you any thoughts on how much better this money could have been used,  and will you share your thoughts with us,

From Farage this morning so yesterday's 7pm edition.

£8bn worth of sub standard PPE written off.

Dinghy boys costing over £1m a day in hotel bills (not clear if that included minibar charges).

Lockdown estimated to have reduced COVID death toll by 0.2%

They did manage to save a bit by ignoring their manifesto pledge to honour the triple lock but that wasn't mentioned.

Be sure to turn out and support our brave government in the upcoming May council elections. You know it makes sense.

And I wondered why my father gave up on his lifelong support of the Tories in his dotage. I thought he'd been taken in by Bliar's silver tongue.

hugh

Triple lock had to go with inflation being so high. Although 8% pension rise would have been very nice

Thursday.
Home Office officials have admitted that the total cost of housing asylum seekers in hotels is almost £5 million per day — four times as much as they told MPs.

Tricia Hayes, the deputy permanent secretary at the Home Office, yesterday told MPs that it was costing £1.2 million per day to accommodate asylum seekers in hotels.

The department has been forced to issue a clarification today, admitting that the total daily cost of housing asylum seekers and Afghan refugees in hotels is £4.7 million — equivalent to £1.7 billion a year.

They had forgotten the minibar bill then...

can't understand how £1.2 million a day suddenly becomes £4,7 million a day. I know government stats are often questionable - but really!

While we are paying for these so called asylum seekers wether its 1.2 or 4.7 million a day, our own people don't know which way to turn to pay their ever rising bills.

We keep this lot of dinghy boy scum, we send millions in aid to Afganistan, to a corrupt country that has hived off the money and left their people to starve, god knows what we are sending in aid to other countries.  The PPE money wasted  fiasco, and god knows what else.

We have been told today, the proposed £250  help with fuel bills will have to be paid back by us later.  Do asylum seekers have to pay back their keep if they are granted asylum? we all know the answer to that one don't we.

While  our people can't pay their bills, working people need foodbanks to feed their children, WHY do we waste our tax payers money on foreigners who we owe nothing to when we are so desperate ourselves?

Alex

"WHY do we waste our tax payers money on foreigners who we owe nothing to when we are so desperate ourselves?"

I would ask the same question Jacq, why  ?

Michael Rolls

they would doubtless tell us that we don't see the 'bigger picture'. Well. to my mind folk here struggling to make ends meet whilst billions are wasted is quite a big enough picture.

Is there any politician or party who could do things differently?  No government in my memory has had to deal with anything like Covid. Or even Brexit.  It must be great to be in opposition when the current government is floundering.

I'm not saying Boris is doing a good job, there's lots wrong, just wondering what real alternatives there are.

Its not how old you are, but how you are old. 💖

When Tories cut aid, it certainly did not go down well with the Labour party.

Putting immigrants into hotels will come to an end soon with covid now under control. Hotels will want tourist who have more spending power.

So our glorious leaders can bask before others on the world stage in their immense virtue. While Putin, Xi Jinping and others snigger into their sleeves. Doutless muttering глупые идиоты and 傻白痴 to themselves or possibly дремлющие пизды from Putin but I'm not too sure how good Google translate is with colloquial languge. Having tried a reverse translation the wording is not the same (I would never be so crude) but the gist was correct.

Further to my last post about asylum seeks not paying back their freebee accomodation money when they can work after being given asylum.

Wouldn't that be a way forward to discorage them? If they had to pay back any money spent on them, I know we would probably never see any of  it, but it would send back a message that we are not such a soft touch.

We are to be in  fuel debt why they get their electric and gas for free, something very wrong here.  If I were a British  homeless person I'd be down to Dover pull up a dinghy,  "me no speakee English, asylum".
