Macron Suggests Arming EU with Nuclear Weapons for 'Credible' Defence

President Emmanuel Macron has been accused of undermining French sovereignty and military deterrence after the head of state "opened the debate" about creating a common European defence armed with nuclear weapons.

In an interview published on Saturday evening with the Ebra group of regional French newspapers, Mr Macron said per Le Figaro: "I am in favour of opening this debate which must include anti-missile defence, the firing of long-range weapons, nuclear weapons for those who have them or who have American nuclear weapons on their soil."

"Let's put everything on the table and look at what truly protects us in a credible way," he continued, but maintained that France would keep "its specificity but is ready to contribute more to the defence of European soil".

"Being credible also means having long-range missiles that would deter the Russians. And there is nuclear weapons: French doctrine is that we can use them when our vital interests are threatened. I have already said that there is a European dimension to these vital interests," the president said.

Macron's comments drew condemnation from both sides of the political aisle in France, with François-Xavier Bellamy, the leader of the centre-right Les Républicains (LR) in the upcoming European Parliament elections, declaring: "A French head of state should not say that."

"This is exceptionally serious because this touches on the very nerve of French sovereignty," Bellamy added.

Conservative populist National Rally MEP Thierry Mariani responded: "Macron is becoming a national danger... After nuclear weapons, there will follow France's permanent seat on the UN Security Council, which will also be sold off to the European Union."

I'm oh so glad we left. Pity we can't move our island to mid Atlantic - solve the boats - reduce the fallout when these goons antagonise Putin to the point he pushed the big red button. Or the Yanks come to that. Or us.

I checked my current account this morning.

Two debits from an organisation I never saw before then a credit. All for the same amount.

WNC Income. Who the hell are they? Google came up with West Northants Income" so it's my rates which have not been collected for a couple of months as they take 10 payments a year.

It's the end of the month so I wonder how many didn't have enough left in their accounts for the double payment error. I did but it was only by chance as I usually move most of my surplus cash into savings and back into the current account as bills become due. There was a bit extra as the useless Principality BS had repaid the money from the account I closed as their login code texts don't come through to my phone into it rather than the bank I originally funded it with and I couldn't be bothered to move it.

The fact that there are specific areas with high immigrant population is a direct result of the push for multiculturalism rather than integration. A big mistake imo.

How often do you hear comments along the lines of "He's coloured/Indian/Muslim but he's ok". The ones that are accepteted will be those who made the effort to integrate. The rest just lead to tensions and resentments. You only have to read a lot of the posts here to see that. Mostly "He's" too as many of the women are simply kept away from those nasty British whose country they live in.

How many immigrants or even second and third generation women of some cultures simply can't speak any English? Don't tell me I don't speak Punjabi, Swahili, Arabic, whatever - I shouldn't need to as I chose to stay in my country of birth speaking the national laguage.

I went to a school in Kent for seven years from 1966 to 1973. There were 500 pupils, in seven years we had two black kids, both sons of Nigerian workers who had moved to UK, and not one Asian.

Otherwise, it was white.

Reigate is mostly white area.. Rarely see non-whites..
