Title: The Gov's alleged plans for Motor Travel
Post by: Cassandra on July 01, 2022, 02:59:56 PM
Another bold first for our Green fingered PM. He  is presently considering ways to replace Fuel taxes, nearly £30 billion a year, as the icing on his 'Green' cake, due from the Electric oven as his 2030 nett-zero window approaches. Currently the generation  Z genii  in his study group inside Downing Street are considering the following; (in between parties).

All vehicles shortly to be built, will to be linked by a transmitter to Satellite link, installed at the time of manufacture to 'Big Brother', who will compile details on every journey. Monthly a DD will take charges from your bank, for the miles you travel, these 'fees' will embrace the following criteria in determination.

All UK addresses already have a post-code. This useful feature can facilitate a menu of options for the Exchequer. For instance 10 postcodes create a region. The more you pass through, either completely or part, the more you pay. No flat one rate charge.

All foreign Car travel is to be discouraged, but you can appeal to the DVLC, that well known centre of efficiency, manned by Domestically based workers famed for their dedicated public service. Appeals are limited to one per year and will need a lead time of 26 weeks to guarantee a decision. Its thought this feature, if approved would 'mimic' mobile phone's current 'roaming' facilities for users abroad?

You will have a maximum travel allowance per year, limited by distance. After that your 'Fuel charge card' will not permit you to purchase fuel, or to re-charge your new electric steed. Every vehicle will have a code so you can't charge up at a friends house, it won't permit the connection.

As an older person you will have a smaller annual mileage allowance. Those over 60 are to be advised to quit driving altogether and rely on the new 'Hydrogen' buses and battery scooters for shopping, or get a discount for home delivered shopping. These plans are said to have been critical to the continuance of HS2 as an income stream, via carless people travelling quicker between places they don't want to go to.

Your vehicle will be disabled once limits are excelled or you are unable to pay. Generation Z from number 10 is also extolling the virtue about vehicle theft being extinguished overnight as a side benefit. The PM is said to be solidly behind these proposals because his wife told him to.

If your vehicle stops 'sending' to Big Brother you will receive a visit from a Parking Warden who will 'clamp' your vehicle in addition to it being disconnected from the service provider. The Wardens will handle all administration arising from disputes etc. Every region will have one 'home based' worker.

All vehicles will be 'speed governed' by Satellite and minimum distances between vehicles will be automatically 'adjusted' from above.

Your journey details will be sold on (currently as a compilation, so as not to allow appeals to The ECHR) to interested purchasers, keen to see where citizens go etc for commercial gain.

Additional considerations are compelling motor manufacturers to be reduced in number significantly throughout the World where possible and only five models to be available everywhere and produced under licence by those 'approved manufacturers' only.

Please note this is from an inside source at the heart of UK Gov.

The ones round here would be an excellent way to reduce the number of pensioners if the bus pass was amended to be a battery scooter pass instead and driving licences only ran to 70. Remember you heard heard it here first.

A Boris Public Bonny, cremating all folk (over 60) monthly on specially prepared pyres sponsored by the WEF with 'The Bill Gates Trophy' presented annually for most evaporations in the year would I'm sure appeal to number 10 (on all floors).

The speed governing relies on GPS tracking (cheaper than the complex set up to read road signs) and is something required for all new EU vehicles from 6 July. They haven't decided yet whether that will be enforced here or not

We are already tracked by fixed and mobile ANPR systems anyway. It is expected that electric vehicles will be subject to per mile charging. I already am as I opted for a By Miles car insurance policy this year as it was the cheapest option for me. There is a little gizmo that plugs into the OBD socket. It records full details of every journey including speed.

Although we don't have an electric car, we live in a rural area, 15 miles to the nearest big town for supermarkets, hospital etc. 30 mile round trip.  8 mile round trip to our GP.  People like us would rack up some miles in a year, OK for the city/ town dwellers where everything is on their doorstep, bad news for us.

I looked at By Miles but for 2,000 miles they quoted me £210.71p based on 2.9p per mile.

However, my current insurance cost me £150.83 & allows me to drive 3,000 miles.

Also I don't like the idea of By Miles refusing a claim when the OBD gadget says I'm doing 35mph in a 30mph area due to GPS lag.

Mine doesn't say that.
My insurance cost is high because of the post code I expect. Car crime is high here. They worked out cheapest for me but won't for many I suppose. For me the base price was £155 a year plus 3p per mile. I don't have the other quotes but on estimates of 4K miles the others were more than the £275 mine will be. If I don't do 4,000 I get a refund. I could have just paid £155 and paid the 3p a mile in arrears.

I pay £258 for my 2018 Civic i-DTEC EX - with no mileage restrictions. I do about 20k miles per year.

My insurance - and I have checked around - despite living in the lowest area bracket, is just over £700 a year - combination of old age (85 this month) £31k new car really tells against one

'The Policy Exchange Think-tank', issuing its own report, said road pricing could be "good for drivers" by easing congestion, and should be implemented through location-tracking technology in cars, backed up by automatic numberplate recognition.'

This Green biased organisation lead by Alan Rusbridger (former Guardian Editor) it is known significantly influences both Mrs Johnson and her liberal friends on the Downing Street (not Dept Transport) 'Policy unit'.  They are presently drawing up new legislation to run concurrent with fossil fuelled vehicles as they are numerically superceded by battery powered replacements. No-one in Parliament, apart from a few realists (a dying breed) are expected to object. It's purpose is known in today's parlance as a a 'nudger'. Hanging in waiting to mentally 'prepare' the proletariat 'de facto' for 2030 and the end of independent choice for motoring as we have known it.

I doubt that the value of the insured vehicle figures all that highly in the premium. Personal injury claims can easily run to hundreds thousands in payouts.

well, no change in the policy other than a £23K vehicle compared to a £31k one

I know mine went up when I changed vehicle but put that down to rip off but it may have been because I had also turned 70 at about that time. It may just be that my current car is in a higher insurance class too though.
