Title: Elsie rides the bus...
Post by: Scrumpy on May 04, 2022, 08:54:06 AM

It was mentioned to Boris, when being interviewed by Susanna Reid , that Elsie rides the bus in order to keep warm and get out of the house.. She uses her Freedom Pass..
She has one meal a day and always looks for any yellow stickers..

Shameful.. absolutely shameful..

A carefully chosen old biddy selected to give an inflammatory interview.

She doesn't get up very early to ride round on the bus in order to keep warm as a bus pass can't be used before 09:30 hrs & anyone can say they only have one meal a day.

I bet she wouldn't let the news team put 24/7 cameras in her house for a month.

Lots of people buy yellow sticker items, I do but I don't have to.

The interviewer should be ashamed of herself.

Ok.. you are probably right..
However.. Pensioners are not treated fairly.. and many do have to shop looking for the yellow stickers..  and feel cold in their homes because they are worried about the heating costs.. Many are not able to ride around on buses.. even if they wanted to..
Shameful.. absolutely shameful..

And what part has Boris played in the international gas & oil prices going through the roof & in Russia invading the Ukraine?

.. and what part has Boris played in helping Pensioners..!!
For years we are well below other countries when paying our pensioners..
We can't keep making excuses for a party or its leader just because we prefer that party..

Tomorrow will give an idea of how much support the government has. The upcoming elections should in theory be on local governance but almost never are.

The economy has gone to rat shit. That may well not be the government's fault but the government always gets the blame.

oppositions don't win elections - governments lose them - even when they are local elections.

Two famous political phrases spring to mind.

It's the economy stupid.

Events dear boy events.

This time we have both in play. We often do though.

I just worry how the country would be with Labour in power.   Would they get rid of "Sir Keir" and put Angie in his place  ? that's what I fear......

We were chatting to another couple in the pub last night and the lady said that her daughter is struggling for money.  I don't personally know of any pensioners who are hard up enough to worry about food or heating, although many of my friends worked in a bank so may be sensible with money!

I'm sure Brian would have something to say if he read this!

My thoughts about the Labour Government I have , in the past, made clear..
I wouldn't touch 'em.. They would put the country into further debt to appease the (poorer) classes..  Before anyone complains about my last remark. I am well aware that there are people struggling.. I am also aware that many of those , so called strugglers,  are are in a (good) place..Having paid little or nothing into the pot.. yet willing to take out..
Better off than many pensioners..

My friend is a pensioner (76)..She is on a basic pension.. Never could afford to pay into a private pension.. Good worker.. good Mum..
She works two days a week so as not to struggle..
At what age can she expect to retire.. ? Eighty.. !! Ninety..!! Because things are not getting any better for her..

And some of us look at Boris & then think back to the days of Wilson & Callaghan with 15% inflation & a 14% devaluation of the £.

If any of you can show me where pensioners were living like Kings under any Labour Government, please let me know.

The most recent Labour Government robbed me of £50 per week when they scrapped the adult dependent allowance.

I can't show you where pensioners were living like Kings under the Labour government..
However.. the Government, of my choice, is doing little to put the problem right..

Many seem to bury their head when a problem doesn't affect them.. and I am not just talking politicians here.

It's a case of being able to accept things can't be just put right by the Government.

I think it would be nice if they showed some sign of trying though.

Taking VAT off fuel bills would be a start.

Is the Labour idea of a windfall tax on energy companies totally outrageous? I don't know but there are going to be millions don't think it would be. My view is that it would be unlikely to yield enough to make any difference. The advantage of being in opposition is that you can put forward all sorts of schemes that almost certainly wouldn't work but will sound like they might. Giving £150 rebate on council tax bills is just a joke and for many would not cover the increased costs on household bills in the first month.

If pensioners were given a decent State Pension.. which they deserve.. and have been waiting many years for.. There wouldn't be any need for the 'handout's' that they have to be grateful for..

I can't remember the rise they were given this year..
Was it 3 pounds a week..?   A loaf of bread.!!  But not spread with best butter.. and certainly no jam..

We get a % rise.. When the percentage is based on a small amount the rise is small.
Bigger pay packets equal bigger rises and the gap becomes wider..

2 pounds. 23 pence.. !!  Bloody insulting..

Look on the bright side though - I'm pretty sure you can spend it how like. Not enough to spend on anything illegal after all.
