Today we can if we have a computer able to buy almost anything on line and have it delivered ,
sixty years ago we had a sort of home delivery service. when i think back then, the milkman delivered bottled milk, the baker, delivered his bread, the coal man delivered coal , the piano tuner called to re tune the piano. the chimney sweep called to do his work. and even then like now even the window cleaner called leaving the windows nice and clean.
Q; So what else do you remember about the way we had a sort of home delivery service. back then in the past,.
I still have a window cleaner call
Mike
Supermarkets have killed the milkman and baker deliveries. Central heating has killed the coalman and chimney sweep. While many parlours had a piano it's years since I've seen one in somebodies house. I think of those mentioned only the window cleaner remains and you rarely see one of those in action these days either.
I think a lot of it boils down to expectations of income. Delivery rounds are too sparse these days to support delivery of low value items like bread and milk and pay anybody a wage they can live on. For better or worse the world has moved on.
True
I was delivered at home.. Don't see much of that these days..
So was I, as were my brother and sister

Private nursing home birth for me. It's been downhill ever since!
We still have a window cleaner.
