Title: New race..
Post by: Scrumpy on December 23, 2022, 07:57:35 PM
The other day I met a new race ....
I was in Greggs and I was standing at the counter waiting my turn to be served..
There was this Alien behind the counter serving another customer.. It wore a hat on it's head and a mask over it's mouth.. It squawked .. not once , but many times.. 'Kelp' .. 'Kelp '.. 'Kelp'..
It's head swiveled towards me and the customer it was serving.. Back and forth.. All the time squawking 'Kelp'.. 'Kelp'..
With the help of another alien behind the counter we worked it out that 'Kelp ' in their tongue is  'Can I help' !! in mine..

Simply a 'Moron', cloned to do as it's told, designed to eat, shit and hatch. A consumer for The Blob's products from cradle to grave. Merry Christmas

My regards and greetings to you too Scrumps and all our other members too. The Snow has really arrived and we had a short, almost dense blizzard just now. It's minus 10c (or 17F as I prefer it) and the glass is dropping. We took the Snowmobile out yesterday and what a wonderful experience. Annie and I went up into the denser forest, whilst keeping to the trails. I took several kilo's of nuts and fat balls and we sat inside the cabin (with the heater on of course) with all three of the dogs on board watching the squirrels and birds enjoy a festive treat!

I'm looking after 'Mr President', who is my neighbours Cockatoo for a week. He's incredibly funny and came with two perches, a cage and his own 'dump pot' - (a little chamber pot), which he insists on using with meticulous alacrity! He migrates between his 'stations' in the Kitchen and Lounge and then comes upstairs sat on my shoulder at night to sleep in his cage with the cover over it.

When I place this over him, a quiet little feminine voice says "Goodnight, see you in the morning". He's become intrigued with me over the past year, which we think is due to my accent. He sits head cocked on one side, cracking his beak, eyes pirouetting listening intently. He loves the phrase 'Boris is a schmuck', in the best rendition I can give of 'Jimmy Durante'! Tillie's very apprehensive of him, but Annie walks about with her new Avian pal perched firmly to her shoulder, knibbling her ear. My friends next door were going to put him in a shelter - but I felt so sad thinking about that.  He seems very happy here with his 'Uncle Brit' and views the canines, from his various pulpits within an elevated disdain. We do however ensure Boris (Owl) is kept suitably partitioned!

It really is a 'White Xmas', my first in decades!

Yes, Merry Christmas to you & once again you have painted a verbal picture of a marvellous way of life.

I hope you enjoy it for many years to come. :upvote:

This country goes into meltdown when any snow falls .. especially down south..
If we had (proper) snow and snow buggies then it would be so different..
Cassandra seems to have 'cracked' it..  To experience such a big change in our later years must fantastic.. How I envy you that..

I was fortunate in having the 'means' to provision the change, which lessened the stress considerably. Also after selling the practice and as the years took their toll, I really had more to live for here.

The snow is wonderful, just like all the Xmases I've spent here, when I could down the years with my wonderful wife. We're off soon to visit all the friends and neighbours who've invited us for a Xmas drink, the list is quite long - thank goodness for Sat Navs! My pal and I are off now to feed the horses. A Happy Xmas to all our readers.

Merry Xmas too Alex, Benton Lake is in Newaygo County and about 750 miles from here. I once visited 'Woodland Lake' with my cousin Coop (20 + years ago) when we delivered (by float plane) a 'circuit board' to a 'games' billionaire, who'd left it behind and needed it so his son could play the computer games, he'd written whilst on holiday  at Woodland Park, a remote holiday 'camp'. I remember that too was a stunning place, a couple of hundred miles North from Benton with some spectacular Lakeside developments.

I always find this time especially evocative by ambivalence to past memories of happiness and the my wife's struggle for life over the Xmas of 25 years ago. Somehow since then it's never felt the same.

I gain some solace from the happy memories especially out here, with my relatives who can share her remembrance and also my mother of course - but those dark corners beckon still. So I can empathise with how I expect your feeling at this time, still so close to sadness. Your kind words describing my semantic 'prestidigitations' are really appreciated and I'm glad that I can still evoke pleasure in my ramblings from time to time. My sincerest best wishes ...

Well anyone's welcome here. I've had lots of emails and texts over the last 24 hours from the UK, concerned over news reports about the weather out here. We here have so far been lucky, compared to New York State and Washington, also areas of Canada. For example Buffalo (NYS) where they've experienced at least 40 ins of snow is only 400 miles away and it appears that the storm is reportedly 2,000 miles wide? Yet somehow, apart from severe icing,  we are barely effected? About an inch of snow with very little accumulation so far, I think the lake somehow provides shelter to the shores hereabouts. That said we can get a foot in an hour apparently and its presently (9am) minus 18c, going down!

Yesterday we managed (thanks to the sleigh) to visit 9 different homesteads within a ten mile round trip, delivering presents from family to family. Getting three onboard was a bit of a squeeze, but we managed it with my friend steering and Annie on my lap. It was somehow offensive to have our engine's sound be-spoiling the crisp silence?

We had a full tank of fuel, packed a couple of shovels on the back and carried rugs, an onboard kettle and Turkey sandwiches (just in case), plus a walkie talkie direct to my relatives, in the event that we became stranded. However apart form a few flurries here and there we proceeded fluently and without mishap. A day I'll never forget.
