Eclipse and a little known fact

Earlier today there was a total eclipse across North and Central America. The BBC cheerfully informs us that if the moon had been in a different place, this wouldn't have happened.

They are well known for their science skills. You can tell how good they are from all their fact checking reports. In this instance they are once again spot on of course and just showing off to the hard of thinking.

They also mentioned that if the Sun was bigger or nearer, we wouldn't notice an eclipse. They really did, and got an expert to verify it too. What is it now, £159 for these gems of wisdom?

I don't know whether it is the BBC or people in general who need the obvious explaining.  Perhaps both these days.

Maybe the BBC have an insight into how well the education system is performing these days. Apart from teaching all the little boys they can be girls if they prefer that and vice versa they can even get some reading by the time they leave. An essential skill so that they can read their calculators. The rest, such as how terrible the British Empire was gets left to the BBC.
